Top Choices For James Gordon in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

With the possibility of this classic character appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice becoming ever more likely, a big question arises: Who should play the Police Commissioner of Gotham City?

As production begins to ramp up , recent set photos have confirmed GCPD involvement in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This raises the question: Will Police Commissioner James Gordon make an appearance? As fans know, Gordon is a long time friend and ally of Batman so it would be hard to imagine him not being present in some form.  Gary Oldman recently portrayed Gordon in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. His performance will be a tough act to follow but here are 5 actors I think could do the role justice.

5.  William H. Macy

He has the look and the acting chops. Macy wouldn't be my first choice but I think he's a solid choice for the role.

4.  Gary Cole

He's not the best actor on this list but with proper direction I feel Cole would bring a certain confidence to the role. Think of Gordon from Batman: The Animated Series. As with everyone on this list he looks good with a mustache.

3. Ted Levine

With his tenure as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer on the series Monk, Levine is no stranger to playing an officer of the law. He would bring a commanding presence to the man in charge of Gotham's finest.

2. Tom Selleck

Selleck has experience playing Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the CBS series Blue Bloods. He is easily the most charismatic choice on the list, known for his wit. Selleck has years of experience and the necessary gravitas to bring Gordon to life on the big screen.

1. Bryan Cranston

Who else? Fans have been saying this for years and for good reason. Not only is Cranston a phenominal actor, securing his 4th Emmy win last night for his portrayal of Walter White on AMC's Breaking Bad, but he has the look down to a tee. He even voiced Gordon in the animated feature Batman: Year One.

Well there you have it. The actors who I think are best suited to take on the iconic role of James Gordon. Who do you think should play Gordon in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Let me know in the comments below.

Note: I'm burning through the first few seasons of Breaking Bad for the first time at the moment, and I might simply be in dumbfounded awe of how incredible Bryan Cranston's acting is.

I'm definitely down with Cranston as Gordon, but it would be cool to see a more athletic version of Gordon on screen too

@SauronsBANE

That show is amazing.... it seriously lives up to the hype, each season gets better, haha.... Cranston owned that role

Thanks! I actually thought about putting Odenkirk on the list. I wouldn't be disappointed if he was cast.

@DrKinsolving, Absolutely. I'm just blown away by how phenomenal Breaking Bad is. I just finished the season 3 finale...there are no words. Each season has been getting progressively better and better. It really makes you look at the other shows on right now, and wonder why they can't be as good as Breaking Bad is. It just makes it look so easy, when I know full well that it's not. Amazing how far intelligent, competent, creative writers can take a story.

Odenkirk steals EVERY scene he's in. He's one of the best things to happen to this show so far, IMO.

@SauronsBANE

Exactly, people tell me to check out Tv shows all the time, and I remember everyone was telling me about Breaking Bad, I started watching the first season when the show was in it's 2nd season, seriously one of, if not the best shows I've ever watched.... Imagine waiting a week or more for the next episode, haha.... Cranston is amazing but so is Aaron Paul, Odenkirk and the rest of the cast (too many to name).... The show touches on so many issues and the character's are handled so well, I seriously miss the show

There's actually a "Better Call Saul" show in the works, for 2015 where Odenkirk will reprise his role, haha

@DrKinsolving, That was pretty much my same experience...although it's taken me MUCH longer to finally get into the show, obviously haha. Still, I'm so glad I don't have to wait for new episodes like everyone else...watching it on my own pace has been fantastic!

Honestly, it's amazing that they managed to get such great performances out of so many different actors/actresses. The writing, the directing, the acting, the casting...seriously, this show seems like it was a once-in-a-blue-moon event.

And haha, I've heard about that spin-off show! I would GLADLY watch that show as well.

I'm very interested to see who ends up playing Gordon in the DCCU. It's going to be very hard to top Gary Oldman, I'd argue that he truly owned the role, more-so than any other actor/character in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

There are so many possibilities. From that list, Cranston is definitely the best pick. Not only is he the best actor of the lot, he also resembles the character the most, and even has experience with the character, having voiced him in Batman: Year One. Having said that, he seems a bit young considering Affleck's "older", "veteran" Batman, so they may need to use makeup to age him further (e.g. grey hair).

I've been trying to think of other choices, but keep hitting a wall. Something about Bruce Willis in Sin City made me think he might be a decent choice, but I think he'd leave something to be desired, and might be reluctant to sign on for multiple installments in the franchise. I was watching Good Will Hunting a few months ago, and while thinking it'd be great to see Matt Damon play Two Face opposite Ben Affleck's Batman, I also considered that Robin Williams might've been an out-of-the-box choice for Gordon - obviously he had the dramatic chops, the likable presence, and to top it all he always wanted to be in a Batman movie. Then, of course, he tragically passed away, so that went from "highly unlikely" to "impossible". There are other possibilities: Jeff Bridges might be interesting, Bruce Greenwood maybe? I don't know. Seems like Cranston's still the best bet. Whoever they pick, I hope they make the right choice.

@RedNTheHood another great yet original option for the character. Tom Hanks would be brilliant in the role!

@AC1

Yeah Cranston is still the best choice but there are many good ones. Jeff Bridges is another actor I considered for this list. He really resembles Gordon in The Dark Knight Returns. Oddly enough the picture I found has Bruce Willis attached to it but he's been phoning it in these past few years.

Breaking Bad is the best show ever, in my opinion. Everything about it is perfect. Once you're done, you should do a "Why It Worked" for it.

I'd go for Cranston, but at this point he and Nathan Fillion are basically rumored for every Superhero part... Tom Hanks has said he wants to do a Superhero film before though I could see him as Gordon

Great suggestion of William H. Macy...and his name begs another thought...Frances McDormand. Just joking, but really, it could work.
