Black Adam seems to be critic proof as the Man in Black strikes up a mighty $26.8 million estimate for the Friday opening day. $6.8 million more than Shazam.
Black Adam opening Friday puts it at $26.8 million in the first estimates, according to Deadline. This puts the Dwayne Johnson led film above Shazam's $20 million, and the biggest opening for a DCEU movie since Aquaman ($27 million) back in 2018. As the film is overpowering the Friday, it looks like the movie will be critic proof. While Black Adam has a rotten 44% rating on RottenTomatoes, it's currently at 88% for the audience rating -- a much better result, and a decent WOM should help keep Black Adam walking until Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is released.
In DCEU rankings
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: $81.558 million
Suicide Squad: $64.89 million
Man of Steel: $44.013 million
Justice League: $38.4 million
Wonder Woman: $38.2 million
Aquaman: $27 million
Black Adam: $26.8 million
Shazam!: $20 million
Birds of Prey: $13 million
The Suicide Squad: $12.1 million
Wonder Woman 1984: $7.5 million
Black Adam has also grossed a little over $20 million overseas over the past two days, taking the total close to $55 million. While the movie cost $195,000,000 to produce. It might take a little while to make any profit, but it looks like it will be heading there after a much stronger Friday than expected. The lower end was $17 million while they averaged the numbers at $22 million. So a strong $26.8 million should take the Black Adam movie to roughly $63 - 67 million for the opening weekend. Maybe even more if the positive Word of Mouth has anything to do with it.
The film has opened up in almost every country but China so far. The gross the film has been positive in both the United Kingdom and France. Korea has a strong word of mouth too, so they look to be doing some strong numbers overseas. Rough estimates are expecting Black Adam to end up grossing near $500 million when it's all said and done.
Black Adam is out now.
In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Black Adam has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.
