Black Panther boasts an incredibly strong ensemble cast. One of the talented members, South African actress Connie Chiume recently opened up about her role in the highly anticipated movie, revealing her role and what it was like to work on the film.
"I play the mining elder in the movie," Chiume told
IOL. "I auditioned for it right here in South Africa actually but the entire movie was shot in Atlanta in the USA so that's where all the fun happened."
Although Chiume has been appearing in movies since 1990 - with a filmography that includes
I Dreamed of Africa and
In My Country - she revealed working with director Ryan Coogler alongside the talented cast of
Black Panther has been an "inspirational" experience.
"I am very excited to be a part of this production. It truly has been an inspiration working with such big stars and being directed by a young and talented man like Ryan Coogler," she continued.
Chiume is actually one of three South African actors in
Black Panther, the other two being John Kani (King T'Chaka) and Atandwa Kani (Young T'Chaka).
"I am extremely proud, working with John Kani and his son Atandwa was great and for us to represent Africa like this is amazing," she said.
Black Panther looks to dominate the box office when its released in theaters next month on February 16, 2018. Earlier today, Marvel
announced Black Panther: The Album, a compilation curated and produced by Kendrick Lamar and Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith featuring music from and inspired by the Ryan Cooger-directed film.
