BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Set Video Reveals How Marvel Plans To Handle T'Challa's MCU Exit - SPOILERS

A newly surfaced video from the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sheds some light on how Marvel Studios will address the end of T'Challa's story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Read on for details.

Work has begun on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and a leaked video from the set of the movie takes us back to Wakanda. As you can see, the throne room has been rebuilt, albeit with one significant, emotional change.

A monument of some sort is being constructed that confirms how T'Challa is being written out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the tragic death of actor Chadwick Boseman after a lengthy battle with cancer, we expected his on-screen hero's life might also have come to an end, and that does, in fact, appear to be the case.

The Wakandan text on those pillars translates to "T'Challa, Our Hero, 'Twas An Honor, Wakanda Forever." Now, it's certainly possible that was built in the wake of Black Panther's apparent death in Avengers: Infinity War, but with no plans to recast the hero, we're expecting this to be how T'Challa's story concludes.

Whether his death will take place off-screen or factor into the story in a significant way remains to be seen, though we know the intention is to honour both Boseman and the character in a meaningful way.

Watching the Black Panther sequel promises to be an emotional experience, but we are excited to see where Ryan Coogler and the team take this franchise next, especially when it means so much to so many.

Since they didn't recast, this wasn't unexpected. It's not like they were going to tap dance around his absence like he was out on mission.

Honestly, having T'Challa die makes the most sense in my opinion. It's like @Vision85 once said on here, and something I completely agree with: ''It raises a hard reality of life, that sometimes people who seemed invincible can just go''.

For me it's similar to Pa Kent dying from a heart attack in the Donner movies. Even the most advanced, most powerful being (Superman in that case, Wakanda in this case) can't save everyone. Not in life, not in art.

@bkmeijer - it makes no sense to me. His dad died in civil war, T'Challa died in BP 1. And then he died again in Infinity War. The last time was saw him was literally when he came back to life. Now he's dead again? This is terrible story telling. They should have recast.

@Makiveli21 - I can imagine they go with that being blipped back to life combined with heart shaped herb lead to something fatal, but so far we don't know the story so it's kinda early to call it terrible story telling.

@Makiveli21 - Recasting would be wrong for a million reasons.
1. You’d be forcing the cast, crew, AND audience to “move on” from Chadwick by replacing him with somebody else
2. The audience would always compare him to Chadwick and he’d always be in his shadow
3. This new actor would practically be a reboot — he’d have different mannerisms, different inflections and voice, react differently to events, and have different ways of speaking to the characters. It would be the same T’Challa in name/relationships ONLY.
4. The crew (including Feige) that were literally friends with Chadwick believed that this was more respectful. I trust their opinion more.

@Makiveli21 - I don't think T'challa died in BP, he was in a coma and on ice until he got a herb. Do they count being "puff away" as dying because everyone who came back just felt like their time was stolen. Only the people that were left thought they died, when they didn't. So storytelling makes sense, similar to how they justify "loki's death" all these years..it makes sense. Not making sense is like BvS where Superman's corpse made pebbles rise on his coffin so we thought he made not be dead, but in ZS JL they confirm he really did die and needed the mother box to revive him.

I agree they should've recast, the characterization from the source is going to be wasted like how Hank Pym being cast as a 70 year old Michael Douglas was.

@Makiveli21 - I agree 1000% I love Boseman & what he did with the character but Tchalla in the books has been through so many things & to have this version killed off in his story so early is crazy to me.In that world it’s like he barely got to be black panther really so how does he stack up to say his father legacy wise or the panthers before him? They robbed Tchalla of so many glories by doing it this way.No disrespect to Boseman but Tchalla was here before him & should be here after him.I was a huge fan of Spartacus when Andy Whitfield died & they recast him & the show went on.The same should’ve happened here.Honor the actor but don’t kill the character. That’s how I feel anyway I love Tchalla and I’m sad we don’t get him anymore in this mcu.His story was just beginning

@DaHyro - I mean they recast Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies and that worked out pretty well. I think of it as getting into a new relationship.

@Makiveli21 - I agree. I look at recasting as something akin to a different artists and writers stepping into a comic. Their art style is different, and the characters look different. The writing is different and no matter how good the writer is, there are always slight differences.

I'm of the opinion that the characters are bigger than the actors. In every instance. They should have recast Stark and Steve also. Because as excited as I am about the MCU moving forward, it's always going to be weird having a Marvel Universe without Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Regardless of how iconic their actors were in those roles.
DaHyro
DaHyro - 7/28/2021, 8:48 AM
@JonAwesome - That was different — Dumbledore wasn’t the main character in any of those films. He also wasn’t the image behind a cultural phenomenon, like Chadwick was for the first film.

@Makiveli21 - I am with you on that and in the minority that think its is incredibly dumb that they choose not to recast. Reeve was iconic as Supes but how many versions have we seen since? I have a strong feeling Boseman would have wanted the mantle to be passed on. John Washington would be amazing in this role.

@bkmeijer - I don't agree. T'Challa isn't Pa Kent. He's not a minor character.

He's a major character based on the main character from a long running comic book. T'Challa is the Black Panther. Sure others have taken up the mantle, just like other characters have been Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. But it always comes back to Clark, Bruce, Diana.

If we were on Black Panther 5, okay then we can retire T'Challa. I think it's early enough to simply recast T'Challa. The Cast and Crew can move forward as that's the job. New actors come in all the time.

This is a fictional story. Hard reality doesn't apply here.

I think Marvel is doing wrong here. I think i'd rather not have a BP2 but have the characters show up in spinoffs or other properties.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 7/28/2021, 9:12 AM
@storyteller - yeah okay that's understandable. From my perspective art can be used as a method of imitating real life, like pa Kent dying from natural causes (independent of him being a side or main character), but I can see how that doesn't work for everyone.

And I'm not sure if this counts as a Black Panther 2, since so far (and as I suspect in the future), marketing is gonna focus on it being Wakanda Forever.

As for me, I just want a new character taking up the mantle of Black Panther and focus on that.

With all due respect for Chadwick Boseman, I wish they'd just recast honestly. Its way too soon for T'Challa to be off the MCU table.

Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 7/28/2021, 6:44 AM
@SnideCut - considering they already took him off the table in 2 out of his 4 appearances yeah they should have recast.
Mercwitham0uth

@SnideCut - I agree. I just can't see this movie working without a Black Panther. Shuri wouldn't fit as Black Panther. She was displayed as being more child like than anything in the first film. Yeah she's smart as hell. Ok but leader material? Hell no.
Zer0squad
Zer0squad - 7/29/2021, 3:14 PM
@SnideCut - I can almost guarantee that Chadwick would not have wanted this outcome. He understood that the character and what he meant was bigger than him. This really is a damn shame.
