Now that we know that Joss Whedon is directing the Avengers, Marvel Studios is working hard to make everything as planned. So, according to Pajiba.com Whedon is in talks to polish the script for The First Avenger:Captain America.

This is from Pajiba:

"As for the exclusive news,Pajiba is fortunate enough to have a source close to the project who has some interesting info on The First Avenger: Captain America. Apparently Whedon’s role in the Marvel film universe may expand even further, as he’s also likely to be tasked with doing a polish on the Captain America script."

Previous screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Joe Johnston will direct the big screen adaptation and it will star Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Hayley Atwell.

Captain America is set to hit theatres on July 22, 2011.

What are your thoughts about Whedon rewriting the script for Captain America?

Damn, this just keeps getting better and better! :) As I've already said, I'm not completely sold on him as director of The Avengers but that fact that he's rewriting that and possibly this as well is great!

You've only got to look at his Astonishing X-Men run to see that this is nothing but brilliant news as he knows how to write the characters of the Marvel Universe very well! Awesome find Wolvie09!

If its true, great news. Johnston won't have any choice but to give his character some emotion if Whedon is controlling whats coming out of their gobs!

@Teabag: Whedon took 2 years because a)Wonder Woman is a boring character with absolutly no rogues gallery of any interest, and b)Joel Silver (who was producing @ the time) forgot a long time ago how to make an interesting movie, finally c) Warner bros. at the time could care less about a comic book character but now that Marvel has been quite succesful they're like hmmm lets jump on that band wagon 3 years to late, and d)Whedon himself said he found it difficult to find an starting point into that character simply because she has no personality as she was simply created by comittee to draw in female readers, so HE left the project saying he wasnt right for the material.

People bitch ands moan about how they should get a comic book writer to script these movies, along comes one of the most popular X Men writers ever(whether you love or hate his Astonishing X-Men thats a fact) to script Avengers and maybe Cap and people still moan. It really is true, the only time you worry about a fanboy is when they stop complaining;)

This is great news. Having Whedon re-write Cap and doing the Avengers means it can tie so much more closely and he can add in the bits he wants for Avengers!

@blueballs-Wonder Woman was not created by a "commitee to draw in female readers", she was created by a man named William Moulton Marston who wanted to have a superhero that girls could look up to. Coincidently, this was also the same man who invented the polygraph machine (lie detector test), hence the magic lasso of truth.

this movie is looking so down hill right now. The date is unrealistically close to be released. The lead choice was rushed after all the waiting and anticipation we got this last minute lazy choice and now the script as it needs work. to recap, bad director, rushed lead roles, and a script thats not up to par? hmmm

i think this is good also. i had little confidence in johnston, but i have total confidence in whedon. and since this will be the lead-in to the avengers, i think its good he is involved.

If they are bad, Tea, Whedon won't have a shield to hide behind. The movie will have a big budget and everything that goes with it. Whedon has never had that so the responsibility will fall greatly on him. Sure, Marvel will be part of that too but Whedon will have all the resources available to him.

1) Any rewrite at this stage means a lack of confidence at a senior level
2) We do not need Whedon's brand of sensitive hero plot development
3) I agree with BlankoftheDead - lazy casting, average director & now a script they feel needs a re-work. It must be Chrimbo - I smell turkey And finally . . .
4) The man has a ginger pubic comb-over for god's sake!

No one would pay the same price for a one hour film and no theater would lower their prices for a shorter film. So scratch that. It's a cool idea to us fans of the books but not to the average movie goers. Plus how much time and money could you save from cutting a half hour away on each film? I don't think it would be significant enough to try. And they can barely fit enough of the source into a 90 minute feature to make a stand alone film, they'd never pull it off in 60 minutes short films. There would be way to many WTFs goin' around to ever be profitable.

its not really out of the box thinking.. its jsut trying to get people to pay top dollar to see a mini series.. high quality or not thats what it is
Shaman
Shaman - 4/15/2010, 10:24 AM
blankofthedead- Bingo! It could work in the comfort of your own home but never in theaters. I mean, who here would actually go every friday night of the year and pay full price for just one episode of True Blood per night? Never gonna happen.
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 4/15/2010, 10:33 AM
@shaman, yeah the whole idea is too much. It would lose the fanbase and its just never gonna happen.. that's what we have cartoons for lol and sometimes they have their animatedm ovie hit theaters too. so really its nothing original IMO

It's not a re-write, it's a new draft of the same script. This stuff happens quite regularly. Everyone should just calm down!

Shaman

blankofthedead- Definitely, it's what DCU has been doing with their straight to dvd short movies. Alone they aren't long enough to be in theaters. Everbody enjoys buying them to see them in the comfort of their own home repeatedly but i don't know many non cb fans that would pay for them full price for one showing of it in theaters. Full features, animated or otherwise have better legs to stand on in theaters at the mo but then again, 3D is hitting the industry pretty damn hard for straight up animation to succeed at the movies.

Relax people, rewrites and "polishing" up scripts happen all the time, even while a film is being shot. Haters can question his directing ability and though I don't agree, I get that he has only directed one film. His writing skills are stellar though, so I don't get people hating on that.

This sounds like a great idea. Hopefully, Whedon will polish the stupidity out of it, like that USO crap. This could be excellent news. I'm happy with Evans playing Cap, now to make sure we have a good story that is worthy of one of comicdom's premeir characters.
