Joe Johnston Walked Off Captain America Film!

First Avenger director Joe Johnston and Marvel have already had a dispute that resulted in Johnston briefly walking away from the film.

This little tidbit of information was hidden in yesterdays casting news story by DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD. I can't believe no one bothered to post it.

According to Mike Fleming with DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD, Joe Johnston has already briefly left the Captain America film. This was in response to Marvel informing him that his budget was too high and that he would have to take a cut in pay. Apparently the two sides came to some kind of agreement and he has returned to the film.

I don't know about you but this movie doesn't seem to be coming together with any of the fluidity possesed by the other Marvel movies we have seen. It seems way too early for walk offs to be taking place.

Multi: It sure seems important to me. If they are having this kind of trouble now, how are they ever going to get through filming a major motion picture?

It is interesting, but I think it's a good thing to want a high budget...unless of course his salary was the reason for the high budget, but I don't think that's likely as he doesn't seem like that kind of director.

That's not a good sign...If they can't get on the same page for this type of stuff, wait til the creative control comes in to play.

I'd love to know what "agreement" they came to...

Wait! Does this mean the film gets cancelled and we get a reboot of Cap in his high school years?

sandman101@ like what? i've seen nothing but good things so far from marvel. Disney hasn't done anything creatively as far as marvel goes. Thor is coming together beautifully and IM2 looks great. and their comics are just as Bendis filled as ever.

it's starting to annoy me how many people are coming online and trashing Disney- give me one example of one thing Disney has done with marvel that you don't like.

This could be nothing. Remember Mickey Rourke didn't accept Marvel's original salary for him but he still came through.

A bit worrying though

at least its a money issue that has been resolved, and not like a script, casting, or conflicting interests problem. lets keep out fingers crossed!

@ odin

i've been preaching that since disney took over. i'm with you 100%. its funny because everyone was worried about things being "disneyfied", yet the only pics we've seen of "disneyfied" characters have been made by FANS! don't people see the irony in that?? blaming disney for everything is just ignorance, plain and simple.

also, if i hear one more ignorant mother fugger blame disney for Super Hero Squad, i might lose it.

I must say I'm glad.

These kind of things help hammer out details that may be otherwise overlooked.

This could, and likely will lead to a better film.

I still think Disney will Disnify Marvel, they'll just do it much more subtely than these current and already contracted slate of films coming up.

I haven't been fast casting, but I have knocked the likes of Kransinski as being Cap.

i really just hope that this film has a great story, and plot, and acting. i would love to see leonardo decaprio cast as steve rogers but thats not gonna happen and they will pick some no name and i think that will hurt the film if anything does. unless it just a cheesy action film then that will be the cause of failure.but im hopeing this will be a great film and whoever they pick for steve rogers will be able to stand beside robert downey jr in the avengers instead of behind him in the shadows.

CornDog@ i just want one example. one! of what Disney is doing to marvel that has people so upset
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 2/25/2010, 2:04 PM
They've yet to disnify their other acquired studios or products, so I don't see that changing yet.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/25/2010, 2:04 PM
@ phinehas

nah man, it'll never happen. they might come out with disneyfied "versions" of comics and toys and shows and things, but they would be complete idiots to do that with all of their existing properties and media. they would lose the already existing fanbase that they make the majority of their money from. thats bad business.

why would you buy a company that makes most of their money off of pre-existing fans, just to turn around and push those fans away?? Marvel already has awesome sales in the children demographic, as well as the adult demographic. why would they even CONSIDER pushing away more than half of their fanbase?? it would be lunacy. it would defeat the entire purpose of the reason they bought marvel to begin with, which is to make money! :)

i agree, its hysterical. people just refuse to believe reality, and choose to believe things they thought up in their head. its silly. IF disney "disneyfies" things, i'll freak out IF/WHEN it happens. until, its been all good so far.

since John Krasinski is in the running... why not an "Office" version of the Avengers?

Steve Carell (Michael) as Iron Man
Rainn Wilson (Dwight) as Giant Man
Jenna Fischer (Pam) as The Wasp
Brian Baumgartner (Kevin) as The Hulk
Paul Lieberstein (Toby) as Thor

I thought when I read it that he was off the project. The woulda been the best thing that coulda happened to this movie. There are some major concerns on this one. I'm officially in full skeptic mode.
