New Captain America Set Images Show Storefront Signs Up With A Stan Lee Reference

Check the latest set images for the upcoming Captain America movie, displaying 1940s signs on the false storefronts, that could hint at Stan Lee's cameo.

The latest set images for the much anticipated Captain America movie, as expected, are from the progress of Manchester's Northern Quarter conversion, into the 1940s Brooklyn, NY. The production crew have now added old-fashioned signs to the false storefronts, which after weeks of work, finally are coming together nicely.

Take a scroll down to see how well director Joe Johnston & the production crew are attempting to make the forties believable. And also see if you can spot the reference/hint to comic book legend Stan Lee, and his promising cameo.

If you haven't spotted it yet, one of the signs adjacent to "Vernon Photos" is the "Excelsior Cigar Shop". And as many of you die-hard fans know, Stan Lee (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the X-Men.) is known for his catchphrase, "Excelsior!", which he used at the end of every "Bullpen Bulletins" column for the comic publisher.

Stan explained a while ago in uncertainty, the lack of time in his busy schedule to join the Captain America crew in England. And seemed sure that parts of filming would take place in the US, where he'll get the chance to shoot his cameo. So the shop sign could simply be a reference to the legend.

Anyhow, the big-budget adaption of Captain America: The First Avenger, which actor Dominic Cooper(Howard Stark) tells ET Canada he could get use to, in theaters July 22, next year.

I actually have disliked most Stan Lee cameos/references, putting aside SM3 and Iron Man.

@Creature Agreed. They've become a bit bland. And personally I hope that whoever interacts with Stan in his cameo for this movie, is not Cap, but someone he actually created.

Stan is legend, but terribly goofy/campy no matter what he does these days. Remember the I want to be a superhero show?

Rise of the Silver Surfer was the best cameo...

I liked Stan's cameo in The Incredible Hulk, in which he's the guy who drank the gamma-irradiated soda and died.

Heh.

Joe Simon should get a cameo, a more significant one than Lee. Nuff said.

Don't forget that Stan was the one who dusted ole Captain America off and pulled him from the back of the storage bin and made him an Avenger. He may not have created the character but he was the one who put him back in the limelight.

I work around the corner from the site . I saw them building a Pharmacy as well . If the cigar store is a direct link to Stan Lee . Who is Vernon from Vernon Photos - The Wasp's father ?

and who is Saunder's Books - link to the writers ???

I have a thought Vernon Photos could refer to John Vernon (deep voiced actor, played the psychiatrist in Airplane 2) did a lot of voices on the Marvel cartoons of the 60/70s, so it could be a nod to him

I love Stan's cameos and look forward to seeing what this one will be...perhaps a pre-serum Cap walks past and says hello to him!? Either way, he may not have created the character but he's responsible for bringing him back into the MU in the 60s! Nice detective work DCMF! :)
