Sebastian Stan to play 'Bucky' in The First Avenger: Captain America

This day keeps getting better and better. Now, Deadline & THR say Marvel has officially cast Captain America's side-kick, Bucky Barnes in The First Avenger. The Romanian actor was reportedly tested for the role of Captain America, but it turns out he was up for Bucky.

Studio confirmed Stan will be in the film in a deal that has multiple options, but there is no confirmation on whether Bucky transforms into Winter Soldier, as is the case in the Marvel Comics version. Marvel is also close to setting the female lead role of Peggy, and recently tested Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt for that role.

Bucky, an Orphan that finds out Captain America's true identity and pairs up with him, fighting Nazis. And later on becomes Winter Soldier.

With multiple films in his deal, Marvel could turn Bucky into Winter Soldier, later on in the franchise. Or they could go the ultimate route, and make Bucky a US photographer in WW2, and becomes old as Captain America is revived.



Hmm, it strange how I was one of the folks who said that he would be a better Bucky, when it was said he was up for Captain America. Anyway, since both sources says he has been OFFICIALLY cast, we can expect a press release from Marvel soon. And maybe they can confirm Evans as well.

You beat me to posting this lol! See how it says he was "reportedly" up for Captain? I think all the recent slew of names that were leaked as "reportedly" up for the role of Captain were all actually up for supporting cast including what's his name. But again we'll all know April 30th. We'll see. Interesting that we've have such a huge News day on April 1. ;)

it seems like all the recent actors that supposedly came in testing for Captain were all a bit short. Even Evans is only 5'11"- 6'.

I haven't seen Kings, but I've heard that Stan (even though his name sounds like a pornstar) was great on it, so I wouldn't be mad about this. He looks the part at least. Still would've much preferred Jamie Bell, but I can live with this.

Do you think Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne will have a cameo in Captain America? You'd think they'd have to introduce them in some movie leading up to the Avengers. If for whatever reason Evans doesn't have the role of Cap, I think he'd make a great Hank Pym! I could see whoever is playing Ant Man as signing on for a 4 or 5 movie deal. Isn't that how many movies Evans allegedly signed of for??? Hmmm 1. first Avenger, 2. Avengers, 3. His own Ant Man movie after Avengers, 4. Avengers 2 and maybe Iron Man 3. There you go I've solved the riddle of riddles. Or I'm completely retarded. I'm just excited for all these movies!!!

He was reportedly on the short list for Cap. Evans has been reported to have landed the role. There is a big difference in the two scenarios.

THR is reporting a 5-6 movie deal. Doesn't appear to be an April Fools joke, other than I personally find Stan a joke to potentially be Winter Soldier.

A wimpy Bucky and Winter Soldier. Oh joy. Need I post the photo of him and his girl friend again? She looks stronger than he does.

I just can't picture Chris with blonde hair??? I totally could see him signed on to play a smaller role do to his prior scheduling conflict. I think he'd make a better Ant man than Cap personally.

@Walking- It's currently slated for 2012, and as far as I know, there were no tie-in plans to the Avengers, at least not currently. It's possible they include him in the Avengers with a smaller role then give him his own film.

You'd think with Ant man and Wasp both being in the first issue of the Avengers comic book they'd have to be in the first one.

Chris Evans and Emily Blunt in their own Ant-Man movie...That would be good. Evans just has that personality. I hope he's not Cap, but I know he most likely is.

I called this one some time ago. People were taking "screen testing for Captain America" as "screen testing for the role of Captain America". So, I think this is totally legit as it makes perfect logic. Nice to see the ball finally rolling on this project.

"EXCLUSIVE: Now that Marvel Studios and director Joe Johnston have set Chris Evans to play the title role in The First Avenger: Captain America, the other roles have begun to fall into place."

According to THR, Stan tested for the title role of Cap.

@thequestion - yeah think about it, the last 3 guys they had rumored up for Captain America was Ryan Phillippe 5'8", Stan Sebastian 5'9" and Chris Evans 5'11"....Oh yeah and Channing Tatum. I could see all those guys being tested for supporting roles. No way any of them were up for the Captain role. No way a 5'8" Phillippe was up for Captain. maybe they have Tatum trying out for Namor??? But Chris Evans is in some supporting role too...Hank Pym!

chris evans is cap. walkingphoenix is right, there WILL be a Cap cameo in IM2...but it'll be him frozen in ice, so marvel can have a Cap cameo even though it filmed before Evans got the role. Fury will show The Abominable Cap to Stark once Stark joins SHIELD/Avengers at the end.
