Okay, when I first saw Chris Evens on that famous ET cover I was like, "Woah, that's Captain America!" I still think that they did an amazing job on the suit and I'm really glad the changed it a bit... but Captain America will come into modern day in Avengers, so why not have Tony change it around for him a bit?

Okay, this is the movie costume of now:

And this is what I'd do with it in Avengers:

captain america,new costume,captain america costume,avengers,thor,Captain America: The First Avenger,The First Avenger,American symbol,hero,CA:TFA,Iron Man,Hulk

Okay, now you have a million questions like what sort of material the suit is made out of etc., but don't worry I'll answer hopefully most of them and if you post in the comments I'll try to answer them too.

On the Helmet: Yes, it is still a helmet, only more like a cross between a motorcycle helmet and a modern soldier's helmet since he didn't have a helmet in the first picture it was hard making him have one so don't be to critical it would look a ton better in a real picture.

On the Armor: I wanted to do the classic Captain America image so he had to have the armor like this. The way to explain it for the film is to say that Tony came up with some high tech Dragon Skin armor, but designed it so it wouldn't restrict Cap's movement thus explaining why he isn't wearing it on the whole costume.

On the Dark Red Strips/Straps and Dark Red Gloves: Yes, the strips are still straps, but I wanted to do the classic 3 strips as to make the suit more recognizable, and this again is easily explained. The straps would be to hold on his armor, a sort of harness so he wouldn't be restricted to typical body armor (in the film you could probably show him buckling the armor on and thus would explain this for the critics). The gloves are no different just a change in color. Now, for the change in color, personally the straps on the First Avenger suit, are too light red IMO, and while the gloves have a slight touch of red, but I wanted more of a hint of red. And so I did both just a very dark sort of burgundy.

On the Darker Blue on the Armor and Pants: Again, while I still liked the First Avenger suit I thought it would be nice to go with a darker blue as the real comic book character.

Nothing else is changed that I can think of besides that I repainted his shield and did a bad job of it. But oh well. What do you guys think? And please don't be too critical as I'm very new to photo editing.

UPDATE:

For some that said the colors were too dark, on the first picture they weren't really true to color they where darkened just like in the poster. This is more what it would look like in normal lighting:

Sorry to all that didn't like it. Also on the armor guys, did any of you google Dragon Skin Armor? It looks almost exactly like it so the chain mail thing doesn't count, the armor isn't chain mail, it would be something like Dragon Skin Armor! By the way guys this picture wouldn't look that bad if it was a real picture, remember how bad cap's set costume looked like...

classic suit or bust! the movie suit is ok at best but its works for being a ww2 suit. i think when directors or whoever start changing the costumes to make them look "cooler", they are forgetting about all the artwork and imagination that went into these characters. super heros are popular among the general audience now so i think they know when they are buying a 10 dollar ticket to a super hero movie. let our super heros look like super heros damnit! oh and the helmet HAS to go!

Gusto: Hilarious! They will adjust it and make it better and modern for "The Avengers." Why would he wear chain mail in the modern era when we have flack jackets and kevlar that are lighter, more pliable, and just as safe?

I think If they go with the original costume look it will look stupid and clown like , they need to go with some thing totaly new for the modern CA movie, it will probably shock a lot of fans but the costume he will wear will be more like a modern day soldier and maybe minus the mask , be warned you will be shocked by it, but I know it will work.

weird i thought most of you guys wanted the armor... guess i was wrong and guys it's not chainmail! it would be like a real armor called dragon skin armor!

and seriously guys do you guys like all the unnecessary straps on the blue part? it's fine IMO for CA:TFA but not for avengers... i thought most agreed to this... but oh well...

dragon skin was a great idea. you managed to find a way to do a semi-classic costume while making it realistic. i like it a lot.

Nice artwork otherside. That costume looks cool, but the one from the movie looks really good in my opinion. However, I do like the classic mask over the movie helmet.

I'm sorry but unless your about 12yrs old this looks utter rubbish, I can't believe how ridiculously nice people are being about it but to be honest I think the truth is best.

Can you actually imagine if in the second movie this is what cap looked like?! I think it's best not to try and tackle something beyond your capabilities, a sketch or vector diagram illustrating the costume and key characteristics would be much more informative and look a lot better.

I don't wanna sound super harsh even tho I realise I started off a bit nasty, but as a designer I want to give you constructive criticism and encourage your creativity.

All I can say is keep being creative and building on your existing skills!

I like the suit the way it is. I hope they don't change it too much.

@mawillia4 thanks... at least i know someone liked my idea...

@Destroyer it would be a sort of helmet but instead of being based off a WW2 classic solder's helmet, it would be more of a motorcycle helmet more like batman's helmet in batman begins...

@MARV3L well... i did a photoedit because i don't have enough skill to draw on the computer or on the paper... i know it looks bad but i thought it would give most an idea of what could happen... i'm sorry you didn't like it... and if you have any helpful tutorials you could share with me i'd appreciate it btw i use gimp to photo edit

@TrueBlue i like it too i would like a bigger star, and all the straps off the blue, at the least, but for recognizability for the common man i'd like them to put 3 straps on the front and make the gloves a bit more reddish... and i always liked the armor design... and i think the helmet is just a bit awkward IMO... i just want them to get a bit more classic captain america... what they have now isn't bad it just needs to be great for avengers...

ok guys the i guess in avengers the only things i really want changed are:

1. the needless gray straps on the top and the strap over the star
2. maybe a slightly bigger star
3. maybe 3 red strips/straps to make the suit more recognizable
4. the helmet is awkward, not as awkward as i thought it would be but still slightly awkward i think they need to make it a bit more form fitting like batman's helmet in batman begins where only his chin sticks out, and in caps case part of his nose...
5. they should cover his neck up as it adds to the helmet's awkwardness...
6. the gloves and boots need to be a little bit more red... but just a very little bit...

@otherside: I screamed and ranted a year ago about Dragon Skin Armor...Hell, I also said that they could have used the same material that they are using on the Thor outfit....

your version looks absolutely terrible. The one he is wearing in the poster is bad ass I think. Its military looking. I say keep the style just update it to what todays military wear
