There are no doubt many actresses who would have bitten Marvel's hand off if they were offered the chance to play Captain Marvel but it turns out that Brie Larson was initially reluctant to say yes. "I never saw myself doing something like this, mostly because I like being anonymous," the actress told Entertainment Weekly during a recent interview about the film. "I like disappearing into characters, and I always felt like if I was out in the public eye too much, it potentially limits you in the future."

"Just seeing a character who says how she feels and says what’s on her mind and doesn’t let people stand in her way is incredibly empowering," Larson says, offering some insight into why she ultimately decided to suit up for Marvel Studios. She also admits that her first thought when she was cast as the fan-favourite superhero was understandably, "Whoa, am I going to be a character at Disneyland?"

Kevin Feige also had a very good reason for casting the actress as Captain Marvel: "She’s already an inspiration to many in her real-world work, and now we get to put her in an iconic costume and give her these powers on the big screen." Larson, meanwhile, adds that Marvel's approach to the movie is one she found it easy to get on board with and she's now confident that it hits all the right notes.

"That is something that is really exciting to me about this film: We did not cut corners on that stuff," the actress concludes. "Like, when it’s funny, it is funny, but also when there’s deep emotional things happening, it’s real. So I was able to bring some of those same things that I’ve brought to full dramatic roles into this, which I’m really proud of because I think it will really set this film apart."

This is VERY VERY VERY old news from like a year ago - stop rehashing stuff without even adding anything new.

Larson's casting was a genuine coup for Marvel. There are very few performers with the ability to play as serious and raw as she can, and also make the switch to genuinely off-the-wall funny and adorable. Pratt is close, (maybe with less dramatic range, but stronger comedic chops). But there aren't a whole lot in that league.

If they play this right, this lady is going to blow up. Carol Corps chapters in every neighborhood. Meetups every Tuesday.

I like everything I'm hearing about this movie now. Seems like there's a good level of confidence and awareness going into it.

it's amazing to me that some users here are doubting Larson's acting ability and we're giving vote of confidence to actresses like Gadot.

it's indeed hilarious.

@Jeight8 - it doesn't make sense. Larson has actually proved herself. Gadot on the other hand had nothing beside legit evidence of bad/mediocre performances, yet everyone kept saying she wasn't given the "right script yet".

Piss off with that. If these same people can't give Larson a chance here with an actual good track record, they never should have given Gadot a chance way back when with a terrible one.
