Marvel Studios' upcoming Captain Marvel completed its directorial search late last month, settling on Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck as co-directors. The pair have worked on four feature films together, along with several televison series such as The Big C and Billions. In a recent interview with Vulture, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed the hiring of the duo, and what made them suitable to helm the film.

"We cast a pretty wide net,” Feige said. “It’s always based on people who’ve done things that we thought were interesting, at any level. We haven’t hired anybody who’ve never done a feature before, but what gets you in the room is doing interesting work in television and interesting work in features, both of which they’ve done. And then it’s about the conversation and the vision that we see."

“For us, what Anna and Ryan have done so spectacularly well in all of their movies, albeit on a much smaller scale than they’re about to do, is create a singular character journey,” he continued. “The stories they’ve told have been so diverse, but regardless of the subject matter, they can dive into it and hone in on that character’s journey.”

Feige also teased that while Captain Marvel will be the MCU's most powerful hero yet, the character and story of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) comes before any of the action or special effects. “Captain Marvel will be, by far, the most powerful superhero in Marvel’s cinematic universe,” Feige continued. “[The story] ultimately needs to be about the three-dimensional, multilayered Carol Danvers character. You have to be able to track her and follow her and relate to her at all points of the movie, regardless of how many visual effects and spaceships and bad guys are filling the frame. That’s what’s important.”

Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8, 2019.

@JoeMomma29 - If it turns out at all. 2019 is quite a ways away to start filming. It gives the studio plenty of time to cancel it if Wonder Woman fails.

@JoeMomma29 - Doubt it, Marvel films are stale, and overall, don't have a good track record. Love that DC is getting the most well known Female Hero out to screen first.......

@JRM1995 - if you don't like the mcu that's fine. But they don't have a good track record?

If marvel's track record is bad, I'm curious, wtf does a good one look like? Fifteen 100% ratings and a billion dollars each movie?
