Here's Why CAPTAIN MARVEL Didn't Cameo In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

It's now widely known that the original plan was for Carol Danvers to show up at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron as a member of the new team, but obviously that didn't happen. Now, Kevin Feige and Jeremy Latchem elaborate on why the Captain Marvel idea was scrapped...

Here we have some more details from last night's event that was held to promote the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron on Blu-ray. All through the movie's production there were persistent rumors that Captain Marvel was going to make her MCU debut in the Avengers sequel, and then director Joss Whedon actually confirmed that the character was originally going to be a part of the new roster that formed in the closing minutes of he film, but they ultimately decided against it.

Now, the studio's head honcho Kevin Feige explains whey they chose to hold off on Carol Danvers' introduction 'till a later date.

"It was in the script at one point, it might have been one draft. Was it… It might have just been Captain Marvel. And we shot a plate and thought we may add her in there but the truth is it just didn’t seem appropriate to have this new person in a new costume come out of nowhere at the end of this story. It would have been a disservice to, what by the time the movie was coming out, a character people already knew was coming anyway. And also what does Captain America say? ‘They’re not the 27 Yankees’. Well if Captain Marvel is there, what are we saying about her? The notion that they need to be, certainly Wanda and Vision, and to a lesser extent Falcon and Rhodey, need to learn what it means to be a team, even if the most dysfunctional team in the history of teams."

It definitely makes sense why they didn't include her, but it's also interesting that it was ever even an option considering the character hasn't  been cast yet.... or has she? If there was talk of using Captain Marvel at any stage then there's a decent chance Marvel at least have some idea who they'd like for the role.

It remains to be seen if Danvers will be introduced before her solo movie outing in 2018 or not, but if that happens it's likely to be in a space-set flick such as Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2.

Yeah it was a good call not to include Captain Marvel randomly and out of the blue like that. It definitely would've muddied things up too, because would she then have showed up in Civil War? And so she'd have been in 2 movies before ever appearing in her (likely) solo origin movie? Would that have to be told all in flashbacks then?

That seems way too unnecessarily convoluted when they could just wait and introduce her in her own movie later on.

Without setting her up, yeah. It probably wouldn't have worked. But introducing her in Ultron would have meant giving her a role in Civil War before her solo...

Marvel has reached a point of maximum complexity. You move one thing and it creates a cascade of unforeseen effects throughout. Like a wicked game of Kal Toh.

Holy shit, I just got up to the part where Jeremy Latham spills the beans on "Which Guantlet is the REAL one?" and the look Feige shoots at him...he DEFINITELY wasn't supposed to say that haha.

@SauronsBANE

I'm watching them, too. And it is really interesting. The original idea of Captain Marvel just showing up at the end as part of the New Avengers alongside other characters that hadn't been introduced, is actually a lot more interesting.

If Jewel had been in that scene, and then already missing by the time Civil War rolls around, then it would give her some background as an Avengers wash out. And if the rumors of Spider-Man being in an Avengers Academy type situation were true (and the deal with Sony worked out a bit sooner), maybe it would make sense for him to be there. All of a sudden, it's not some odd inclusion of Captain Marvel out of nowhere, but instead a tease of new characters that are soon to come.

I understand why that original idea got pared down drastically until it got cut entirely, but it was still an interesting idea.

Man, I was thinking earlier how awesome it would be for them to add Wonder Man and Herc to the MCU. The nerdgasms if they did…

RorMachine - I thought he was decent. Not as fun as Evan Peters Quicksilver, but he was serviceable and it was a darn shame that they offed him.

Yeah it was a good thing they didn't include her. Hopefully, Margot Robbie is Captain Marvel.

Though I'm 99% sure that when she appears on the big screen, she will wear the costume she has currently in the comics. I still have slim hope that she will don this costume(or a very similar variation to it)

Emily Blunt is still my top choice. I want someone who is willing to put in the work to get Captain Marvel's physique and who is a great actor. Out of all of them Blunt is my favorite and given that she was almost Black Widow but had to pass up on the role, this is the perfect time for Marvel to bring her into the MCU.

Adding Captain Marvel wouldve been messy. I'm glad they didnt do that. Sounds like it would be another reason for fans to complain.

Katheryn Winnick.

She is phenomenal in Vikings.

And she is a dead-ringer for Carol Danvers.
