THE MARVELS Gets A New Poster And Title For Upcoming Release In China

The Marvels is going to be released in China later this year, and the highly anticipated Captain Marvel sequel has a new poster and title for its debut in the country. You can check those out here...

In recent years, the number of Hollywood movies released in China has dramatically declined. That's slowly starting to change and it's been confirmed today that The Marvels will open in the Middle Kingdom on November 10.

However, it's been given a new title: Captain Marvel 2

The poster itself is a solid effort and offers a fresh look at the sequel's lead characters. Marvel Studios is bound to be hoping the SAG-AFTRA strike ends in the next couple of weeks as it will mean they have this impressive cast on hand to build hype for the Captain Marvel follow-up.

During a recent interview, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta revealed she asked Chloé Zhao (Eternals), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) for their advice before joining the MCU.

"Are they going to kill me and destroy my soul? Is Kevin Feige a bad man?" she jokingly remembers thinking. "And they were like, 'No, he’s just a good guy who was a nerd.'"

Admitting that she'd often text Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton on tough days to talk about being overwhelmed and stressed, the filmmaker added, "Sometimes you'd be in a scene and you'd be like, 'What the hell does any of this shit mean?' Or an actor’s looking at some crazy thing happening in space, and they're [actually] looking at a blue X."

"There were obviously hard days, and days where you're like, 'This just isn’t working.'"

It sounds like DaCosta eventually pushed through those struggles, though we don't have long to wait before discovering whether The Marvels does Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel. and Photon justice! For now, check out this new poster below.

In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."

The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.

The Marvels is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 10.

Marvel is no longer in a place where their brand alone can make movies successful, so I'll honestly be very surprised if this thing makes money. I don't know who in their right mind thought that a movie with this group of characters would be successful.

@Urubrodi - this movie is such an underdog at this point.... it's probably going to be pretty good and make a profit.

@ProfessorWhy - I mean I hope so, but the idea behind it and the trailers so far haven't done much for me, but let's see.

@Urubrodi - I mean, they always make sequels to films that make money in the hopes some of the audience returns and it usually works out great for Marvel... half the characters in this very poster already were in the first movie as well. Sure enough, the momentum that the MCU had back in 2019 was very different, but I see no good argument on why they wouldn't make this film.

@WakandanQueen - Main reason why the first movie made money is because it was released between their 2 biggest movies and connected straight into Endgame, it really hadn't much to do with the character. Since then it has been quite clear that Captain Marvel does not have the same popularity as the ones that came before hence why they shoved in 2 other "Marvels" into this. The 2 of which came from Disney+ TV shows and not everyone in the general audience will have watched that and will probably have no idea who they are. Plus, it's not just about why make a sequel, but what the movie looks like, and it's giving me a lot of silly goofy vibes that something like Thor 4 gave.

@Urubrodi - I would attribute the extent of its success more so in the momentum of the franchise at the specific time of its release, but what percentage of it goes to how liked the film or the character were, we won't be able to know for another month.

Monica was in the first film as a child. You don't really need to watch anything other than the first film to know her relationship to Carol. You don't need to get into too much detail on how she got her powers. Kamala is a Carol superfan. All these characters are related in their comic history, this is no random line-up and giving Monica and Kamala co-lead roles ain't gonna take away from how direct of a sequel this is.

It still has Carol watching over the cosmos all these decades later, still battling Kree and dealing with the pressures of being an intergalactic superhero (Dar-Benn has a personal vendetta against her, Monica has felt neglected over the years, Park Seo-joon's character is also from her past). She's teaming up wih Fury once more. Yea, it does seem to step a little more into goofy cosmic adventure than the first one, but it does address serious themes according to the director. The first film could have benefited from a little more personality.

I was sorta looking forward to this for Ms Marvel, but after the dissapointment that was Secret Invasion, i'll wait until it hits D+

OT:

the Argylle trailer dropped. Definitley not what i was expecting as it seems Cavill's got top billing but is barely in it, looking forward to seeing how he and Cena bounce of each other though.

@UniqNo - This looks interesting. I stopped halfway through the trailer do not get spoiled. I'm sold on the idea.

@Usernametaken - Yeah i admit it looks good. Giving off Kingsman vibes. (the first and better one). Vaughns movies are always entertaining, some more so than others.

China is actually allowing a MCU film to be released in their theaters? I guess they don’t know that the Flerken supports a free Taiwan.

@minato808 - The flerken does not support a free Taiwan, the flerken merely would prefer that Taiwan is controlled by a UN-recognised China rather than the current government.

This will tank, I have zero interest in Monica, zero and kamala, I liked in disney+, but I have zero interest in buying a movie ticket to see her. The movie should be cap marvel 2, Period.and why ask @taika, he destroyed thor and made the worst dogshit movie in the mcu, who cares what he thinks 🤔. As others have said, the movie has a silly, kiddy vibe, like a power rangers episode, like a world where you can only sing, corney, not grounded, feels like love and blunder, no thank you.

I'm glad the writers strike ended, now there will be no excuses when this bombs.

Did anyone ask for this? I don’t know a single person excited about this movie. Who even are half of these characters? We have all these legacy characters and this is what they decide to invest their time and resources into? Disney is clearly being poorly mismanaged right now. I’d be pretty upset if I were a shareholder and this is what the company prioritizes for their future lineup.
