In recent years, the number of Hollywood movies released in China has dramatically declined. That's slowly starting to change and it's been confirmed today that The Marvels will open in the Middle Kingdom on November 10.
However, it's been given a new title: Captain Marvel 2!
The poster itself is a solid effort and offers a fresh look at the sequel's lead characters. Marvel Studios is bound to be hoping the SAG-AFTRA strike ends in the next couple of weeks as it will mean they have this impressive cast on hand to build hype for the Captain Marvel follow-up.
During a recent interview, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta revealed she asked Chloé Zhao (Eternals), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) for their advice before joining the MCU.
"Are they going to kill me and destroy my soul? Is Kevin Feige a bad man?" she jokingly remembers thinking. "And they were like, 'No, he’s just a good guy who was a nerd.'"
Admitting that she'd often text Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton on tough days to talk about being overwhelmed and stressed, the filmmaker added, "Sometimes you'd be in a scene and you'd be like, 'What the hell does any of this shit mean?' Or an actor’s looking at some crazy thing happening in space, and they're [actually] looking at a blue X."
"There were obviously hard days, and days where you're like, 'This just isn’t working.'"
It sounds like DaCosta eventually pushed through those struggles, though we don't have long to wait before discovering whether The Marvels does Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel. and Photon justice! For now, check out this new poster below.
In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.
When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."
The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.
The Marvels is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 10.
