IGN recently caught up with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to discuss Captain Marvel, and he offered some very interesting updates on what we should expect from the highly anticipated release. Asked about where things currently stand with their hunt for a director, Feige explained that while it's not essential, they're determined to find a female helmer to work on this particular adaptation.

"I do think it will be not a requirement to make a great version of Captain Marvel, but it's something we think is important," he explained. "With all of our movies, we want them to be different, we want them to find the new voices. I think the fun thing is we're meeting so many great directors that we'll bring one of them onto Captain Marvel, but we have future things to come [for the others]."

More on that can be found by heading on over to the site, but Feige did go on to explain why there's been a delay with finding the right director. "We're trying to get a little more of the story set before we bring a filmmaker on so we can talk about the story with the filmmaker before we bring them on." What will that story involve? A very different way of telling Captain Marvel's origin story it seems!

"What is one of the coolest things about it is she will be by far the most powerful character we've ever introduced in the movie. 'How do you find those limitations? How do you find those vulnerabilities?' is something that is sort of at the crux of the story that we're putting together. She has -- as you know from the comics -- an interesting story, and I think we have a very cool and unique way of telling that story. I don't think it's leaked yet exactly what we're doing with her movie or how we're doing it, but it will be cool. She will prove to be a very important character in our universe for all the movies." That comment about her powers is particularly interesting, don't you think?

Carol Danvers is extremely powerful, and it sounds like she's now going to right up there with Thor and The Hulk when it comes to being one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most formidable heroes.

More powerful than Strange? Or, does he mean brute muscle power?

@JonC - Even if it's brute muscle force, she has to contest against Hulk and Thor for that.

@JonC - Hulk is the strongest, and Dr. Strange with the strongest abilities. Idk about these comments cause I think Thor should be the most powerful combination of Might and Magic, with Carol being the most powerful human.

@dnno1 - Captain Marvel was able to go toe to toe with the Hulk. I'm guessing he means most powerful being variable. Since she is basically a flying Hulk. Hulk can't fly or breath in space. She can. That edges her over the Hulk.

@JonC - I think the Russos have said atleast once that Scarlet Witch was the most powerful character or hero atleast
