COMICS: DC Tease The Return Of THE JOKER

COMICS: DC Tease The Return Of THE JOKER

We haven't the iconic villain in the pages of the New 52 since he went all "face-off", but now The Joker is set to be the focal point of a new storyline beginning in Batman #13. Check out a cool teaser..

Says Scott Snyder of the character..

"Joker is my favorite villain of all time. Not just in comics. In everything - film, books, TV. He's the greatest, hands down. So this story is something extremely important and personal to me - something I've been building in my head ever since I started working in Gotham. Basically, this is my big exploration of the Joker, my ARKHAM ASYLUM or THE KILLING JOKE, only bigger in scope. Bottom line: it's the biggest, baddest, most shocking Joker story I could tell. This is Joker completely unleashed. He has been away for a full year planning this revenge, watching, plotting, setting things up. And now he's back. He has his traps set, his knives sharpened... And wait 'til you see him. Greg's sketches literally gave me chills. Point blank: This is Joker like you've never seen him before. He has a mission. He has a secret. And he has a serious axe to grind with Batman. It isn't going to be pretty, but it's going to be a wild ride. Thanks for taking it with us."

Snyder and Capullo are doing the Joker, head has just exploded. Arguably best team at the moment in comics.

Don't you die if you have you're face cut off? You know, in the real world?
Quinn heard that he was dead, in Suicide Squad, which is why she escaped the Squad and returned to Gotham to see Joker's body. Dead, right?

Oh no.

Sorry, but I'm not happy about this.

I don't like what Snyder has been doing with Batman, and I don't think he's a good choice to write The Joker.

I could be wrong, but this looks like a bad move on DC's part.

The Dollman removed his face and grafted a different one on him. That was the whole premiss to Detective #1. They just haven't followed up on that until now.

@RunDTC Its a comicbook, which have never been the staple for realism.

@Siddhant1138 I have to disagree with you, but respect your opinion, but just wondering who would you have write Batman?

@DukeAcureds I know what you mean, aliens from crystalline planets, imps from the 5th dimension, a city full of hyper-intelligent gorillas, a ring that makes the wearer's imagination reality, men that can run faster than light, legion of near-immortal owl men and an amazon warrior molded from clay and given life by the gods are fine. But someone surviving from having their face cut off? That's just silly.

Whoa. Hopefully we get a risky, ballsy new approach and look to the character like they did in Dark Knight.

Slightly annoyed that they always resort to the Joker at some point or another sure he's an awesome villain, but i wish they'd push other villains into the focus and try out new idea's instead of recycling the same old.

@Knightrider I know this is going to sound whiny, but at this point, I'm sort of sick of what both DC and Marvel are doing with their all long running series. Hear me out, until six months ago, I was an avid reader, as I have been for a long time. Now, continuity was always an issue, but I managed to work through it. I thought the DC relaunch would be a good thing, and it was initially. But after a few issues of each Batman line, I realized that while the continuity of Batman was supposedly unchanged, their was a disconnect between each title. Batman & Robin was forgiven of course, since it seemed to take place much later, but Batman, Detective and TDK seemed like Batman was three different people, in three different continuities (not to mention the Batman in JL, Batman Inc. and JLI). And with all the games the two big companies are playing to rope in the untapped market that's now gained an interest thanks to the boom in comicbook movies, I honestly couldn't care less about who writes Batman in the long run, because the publishers will still have control, and their motive seems to be largely monetary at the moment, so for a while, it's all going to be about how can we draw in readers to make IMMEDIATE profit, without caring too much about it making sense.

I know how sour I must sound, but don't get me wrong, Batman: Noel was fantastic, and I'll be first in line to buy Earth One, and I think those sort of stories have a distinct advantage (Earth One especially) because they aren't bound by cumbersome continuity issues and rigid publisher control. So to answer your question, I'm not sure who I'd like to see write any of the current titles, but if they were to give Morrison the chance to do something out of continuity, or perhaps Brubaker now that he's done with Cap, or any top notch writer really, I'd be happy. I love seeing new takes on the characters, heck I even loved what Kevin Smith did, so if anybody wrote a stand alone, I'd pick it up.

Except Frank Miller, [frick] that guy.

@Knightrider: thanks Captain Obvious. but having a non-powered character surviving without a face is still pushing it. what next? Iron Man gets decapited and builds himself a robotic head?

I appreciate DC taking the Joker off the table for the first year of the relaunch. He's one of those characters that need to be used sparingly.

@DukeAcureds plenty of people have survived the loss of their face, so it's perfectly feasible that Joker could too... assuming he had some kind of surgery afterward...

I have no idea how they'll explain him reattaching his face after a year though, assuming he does actually reattach it. Ah well.
