The writer of The Dark Knight Returns will be revisiting one of the novel's most memorable characters, as Frank Miller's new 5-project deal with DC Comics includes a Carrie Kelley graphic novel.

Miller will be joined by artist Ben Caldwell for this story that will be aimed at younger readers.

Carrie Kelley has appeared in both sequels to The Dark Knight Returns, as well as The New 52 and DC Rebirth, but Miller says this story will give her a chance to shine on her own:

“It’s thrilling to have Carrie Kelley take center stage for the first time, and the energy that Ben is bringing to her is new and different — it’s incredible to see."

The first of Miller's five upcoming projects with DC will be Superman: Year One, illustrated by John Romita Jr. This series will be part of DC's new Black Label imprint.

This was a big week in Frank Miller news, as it was also announced that the veteran writer would be taking on the story of King Arthur for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.

While it might seem a bit weird for the writer of some of Batman's darkest stories and the adult-oriented Sin City series to be working on children's stories, it will be interesting to see how Miller takes on these new challenges.

How is Frank doing? Is he up for these projects? Maybe money is tight.

Everyone's going to hate me for this but I think The Dark Knight Returns is overrated. I don't know why everyone says it's the best Batman comic. The art is really weird and unrealistic, Superman's character is bastardized and Batman is a psychotic killer.

I wasn't her biggest fan in TDKR. And I think DK II was horrendous, haven't read DK III yet, is it any good?

@RageDriver2401 - It's definitely the worst one, so if you didn't like the real Dark Knight books, then you might like it.

I've noticed that a lot of casual DK or Miller fans love DKIII, but Miller enthusiasts could tell that it was really just an Azarrello book with only a hint of Miller, every now and then.

Please be canon, please be canon, please be canon, please be canon....

Ever since they introduced Carrie Kelley in The New 52, I've been dying to see her join the Bat-family. Not everything Frank does has to be a sequel, prequel or spin-off of Dark Knight Returns. Year One was canon for about 7 years, but still fit into Miller's Dark Knight mythos.

Catgirl FTW, btw. DK2 is so underrated. Love that book!

Hyped for this, either way.

Needs to be a movie!

Okay, so, after googling this project, I see some of the concept art has her as Robin, shows her high school friend, mentions the arcade (always a good time at the arcade) and has a mutant.

This is a Dark Knight Returns spin-off, set at the same time as the first graphic novel.

Slightly less exciting, now.

I've never been a fan of Kelley's so this is a hard pass for me, but for the people who are I'm happy for you.

Speaking of the All Star properties, you have to, have to, have to read All Star Superman. I've read it about 4 times and each time I get a little something more from it. Don't let the name Grant Morrison scare you off. Although I am a fan of his I understand some comic book readers don't care for his work. This is totally different than his normal work. Truly a must read. Made me a fan of Superman for the first time.
