COMICS: Geoff Johns And Ivan Reis Are Returning To AQUAMAN

The original New 52 Aquaman team of Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis and Joe Prado are returning to steer DC Comics' solo Aquaman title. Current writer Cullen Bunn will be departing the series in January, opening the door for Johns to tell "Rise of the Seven Seas".

Just days after Cullen Bunn announced that he was leaving the solo Aquaman title due to negative backlash from fans regarding the current storyline, it appears that DC Comics' Chief Creative Officer is stepping in to right the ship. There's currently no timetable for when Johns and his creative team will take over but Bunn will be departing the title in January 2016.  Johns will be looking to complete the "Rise of the Seven Seas" storyline he previously hinted at in the close of his original run in November 2014.  Following Johns departure in late 2014, the series saw the creative teams of Dan Jurgens +  Lan Medina, Jeff Parker +  Paul Pelletier and then Bunn + Trevor McCarthy all attempt to sustain the momentum the title had while riding the New 52 wave but to little success.

The first couple issues were solid, but I think Aquaman was one of Johns' weaker runs.
Man I wish there were more than like 4 guys who can write good superhero books.

@gusto

Johns' volume 1 is probably as good as it gets, but I guess I'm no Aquaexpert

I hope he brings back Kaldur'ahm or Jackson Hyde. I dislike how the New 52 has taken him out of the comics and want to see him return. Plus I also would like to see what he could do with the character Dolphine too.

Just not feeling this Aquadude, maybe the movie will spark something. What is up with Johns involvement with Earth M? I want character designs.

LOL! I actually recently bought the entire Peter David run from the 90s on eBay for 20 bucks (because no one cares about Aquaman). My brother is currently reading it (because I myself don't care about Aquaman).

I was surprised to find that David's run isn't on Trade Paperback (probably because DC Comics doesn't care about Aquaman).

I do plan on reading it soon.

Nomis, is it true that I should read the Time and Tide story arc (Peter David apparently wrote that too) before reading David's official run?

@sebscso54

I don't doubt that there are lots of great writers that exist. I mean actually working in the industry.

It's cool they're trying to regain some of the 'Aquaman can be cool' traction from New 52

BUT

Would they not be better off fixing titles like Superman or Batman that have gone of the rails a bit with powerless-grumpy-man and robobunny?

I mean Aquaman may never be popular but any kids who pick up batman or superman after the new movie are just gonna go 'wtf?' and throw them away and this should be a chance to really boost their sales.

Can someone tell me what happened to Aquaman in Justice League! One moment he was there and then I realized he was missing in Darkseid Wars. Did I miss something big?
