DC Comics is sitting on a Potential Goldmine with Icon

Icon could be a very unique character within the DC Comics Universe

Milestone characters have had a rough start within the New 52 (See Static Shock run), so I understand why DC Comics is in no rush to introduce Icon.  However, I think if approached from the right angle, Icon can be an extremely unique.  Some also say that a solo series with Icon might be too similar to Shazam’s and Superman’s.  I think although these characters have similar powersets, Icon’s stories can be drastically different.  First of all, He is also at least 150 years old (this is when he first crashed down to Earth).  Therefor, the series could be made up of Icon as the earth’s silent and sole protector against evil without disrupting the continuity.  He could be fighting aliens from the 1880’s, but had to move within the shadows because the world was not ready for a flying alien back then.  Completely new villains could be made from this and it still wouldn’t affect the continuity.  Stories could also be told about how Icon might’ve been seen as a major threat and had run ins with the Intelligence Agencies world wide similar to the situation with Blue Marvel from Marvel Comics.  Finally, within the backdrop of this, his personal life would be extremely unique.  He’s currently a wealthy lawyer, but on top of that he’s a black man (who started out as a slave) that has experienced the past 150 years of life in America.  This vast experience and is why his story would be so different than Shazam’s or Superman’s.  I could envision him in a mentor role to many of the top-tier power level heroes.

They're also sitting on a goldmine with most of their heroes. I will always love DC heroes more than Marvel's, but the lack of utilization on DC's part of their fine, fine heroes can getting irritating.

DC has plenty of goldmines but WB only cares about one. Batman. The sad truth.

I only know him off Young Justice where he was useless in trying to save the Justice League...And he was voiced by the guy who did Briggs in Black Ops 2.

I could see this working somehow. But God I hate Briggs...

Yeah he's... ok. But in this universe Icon is going to be Cyborg basically... which is ok but cyborg isn't a jla founding member. Roster should be: Martian Manhunter, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). In the sequel Green Lantern is in space most of the time but you see him fighting the threat seperatly for a large portion of the film until the end, giving Aquaman and Green Arrow the chance to join the team

Yes Icon is a goldmine. He would appeal to a whole new audience who may be getting tired of seeing the same superhero over and over again. He needs to revert back to Marvel. lol.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but Icon has always been a DC character. Besides being owned by Milestone that is. He has never been a Marvel character.

If Icon's a goldmine, DC is sitting on a planet made out of vibranium with Wonder Woman, Flash, (a good) Green Lantern, Aquaman, and a bunch of their big characters.

Don't get me wrong I want to see the milestone character's but not yet. I think they should give them a TV show or something.

@phantom1527 I like your editorial. I hate what DC has done to Milestone characters, do something with them or let them go. when they dropped Milestone is when I dropped DC (except for Batman). They can introduce them to the new 52 with out changing the race of iconic characters for their pc agenda. I have ideas on how they can introduce some, maybe I'll share with the site.

I agree with you Phantom... I really want to write a series in which Icon's distrust of mankind makes him somewhat of a villain. Where his alien tech is actually tied to the origin of several heroes and how he struggles to find his place in the world now that we have a new Superman.

After decades in space, Icon would return to earth only to find it very different from the one he left. All the technology he had hidden away has been stolen so he goes on a quest to retrieve it and rid the world of what he believes should not be in the possession of humans.

What do you think?

@Blackreverend I think that could definitely work. HIs story is so unique, that he could be approached at a multitude of angles
