1. The Death of Superman

One of the best stories that I have ever read in my life.

2. The Reign of Doomsday

So far the storyline is pretty good, just hope it goes out with a bang.

3.For Tommorrow

The darkest storyline ever in the Superman comics where we get to see Superman cut loose.

4.Superman/Batman: Absolute Power

Can you imagine if Superman and Batman ruled the world?

5. Birthright

The first Superman origin story for the 21st century where the kents are young, clark and lex knew each other, and my least favorite the return of bumbling Clark.

Superman Doomsday is an amazing story and needs to be adapted into a movie soon, or at least used as inspiration for a movie.
Nice stuff.

I hate Doomsday's outfit though, I know it's an odd thing to comment on, but with him wearing short shorts and matching knee high boots, he looks like a cross between a male go-go dancer and a school kid wearing shorts with their socks pulled up. He should just have ripped trousers like Hulk, with his spikes sticking through.

Sorry to be a dick... but how can you call this a "Top 5" if you've already picked 10 so far and have just said that "Part 3"(presumably another 5 stories) is on the way? Here are 15 of my top 5 stories...

@GDSuperguy- Kingdom Come was a good read, gotta love Alex Ross. It did center on Superman but i still wouldn't count it as a "Superman story" it did focus on Superman isolating himself from the world for a while after having lost Lois then realizing the world wanted "darker" heroes rather than the old-school ways he represented...but then returning to be a hero and rallying others.

Kingdom Come to ME personally is a futuristic JLA story. Gotta hand it to Ross for creating that Superman/Wonder Woman love-child, trained by Batman. It's gotta become the most powerful being in the DCU.

@JM4Superman- Great article man. "Absolute Power" is one of my personal favs as well. Loved how dictator-ish Supes and Bats were...didn't they execute Green Arrow in the beginning of the book? i seem to remember they did. Batman mentioned it was Superman's birthday or something and that was his gift- GA's death, LMAO!!

There are some good stories but you're missing Superman All Star. I don't care if it is on list three. It should have been the first item on list one. Even if we disagree on that, it should have been on the first list. Its the definitive statement on Superman.

And yes, we will call Earth One Superman emo Superman. Smallville gave us enough of this character. Strike that, way too much of this character. Superman is a MAN, not a boy, not a young adult still trying to figure it all out. He's a man who knows what he's doing. The world's greatest superhero is not someone who at any point in his life was half as whiny as Smallville boy was. The Smallville type character can grow up to be a good man but he can't grow up to be what Superman has always been.
