Amazing Spider-Man editor Stephen Wacker has hinted that a new Spider-Man will replace Peter Parker.

Wacker suggested that Marvel might be considering a shake-up of the franchise during an interview with Comic Book Resources.

Speaking about the upcoming 'Origin of the Species' storyline, the editor said: "Beyond that, we've already started talking about the fact that it might be time for a new, or at least better, Spider-Man. I feel like we've done as much as we can do in terms of Peter Parker's time as Spider-Man."

Later, he said: "In Christos Gage and Mario Alberti's Spider-Man/Fantastic Four miniseries, which begins July 8, we'll be looking at the relationships between those characters over the years, sort of like what we did with X-Men/Spider-Man.

"That will give readers a good sense of the relationship between that team and Spider-Man, which will play into some of the stuff we'd like to do over the next year as well, whenever we have our new Spider-Man..."

I thought Marvel had lost it when Brand New Day started. Now a new Spider-Man to replace Peter Parker? I am not liking the sound of this.

I hope they make the new Spidey a black dude so everyone campaigning for a black Peter Parker in a movie shuts up once and for all.

InSpace- I actually hope it is a brand new character. I don't like it when they just suddenly change an already established character.

it doesn't matter. no matter what they do, Peter Parker will end up being Spider-Man again at some point in the (more than likely near) future. just like Steve Rogers will be Captain America again at some point.

Anytime an iconic character gets swapped out with someone different, they ALWAYS go back to the original at some point. ALWAYS. anyone that thinks different just hasn't been reading comics long enough to know.

At some point, some writer will come along and totally screw up the new characters, everyone will begin to hate them, Marvel will start losing money on those titles, and then they'll bring back the originals to get fans back. its happened countless times in the industry. you can count on it as much as you can count on the revolving door of death.

anyway, i agree with Morte, this is a [frick]ing terrible idea. He just joined the Avengers. so what, are they going to have this new guy in the Avengers now? weak.

Wacker by name and nature - they need to greatly improve the artwork and the stories - I agree Brand New Day has a lot to answer for and has limited storylines, rather than openned up new frontiers.

Why not bring in a Jim Lee or similar to create a little hype and refresh the character - don't change the very essence of Spider-man again.

weird... surely they can't do this? right?
