STAR WARS: Marvel Comics Announces WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS Starring Boba Fett...And Han Solo (In Carbonite)

Following yesterday's teaser, Marvel has announced War of the Bounty Hunters, a Boba Fett-centric event which will fill in the gaps between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Marvel's Star Wars comic books have been filling in the gaps between the movies for a while now, but this May, a new event kicks off which will reveal what happened to Boba Fett between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

In the former, the bounty hunter made off with Han Solo in Carbonite, but it appears he didn't go straight to Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine.

In fact, Fett lost his prize!

"The main story that we’re dealing with is a Boba Fett-focused crime epic, that involves Boba Fett going up against some of the heaviest hitters in the galaxy," explains writer Charles Soule. "It’s Jabba the Hutt. It’s Black Sun. It’s Darth Vader. And a bunch of others - factions and so on - that I think will be really interesting for the fans. It’s basically Boba Fett, by himself, against all of these people."

"Boba Fett is in possession of Han Solo at the end of Empire Strikes Back, and at the beginning of War of the Bounty Hunters, he is not," he continued. "And he is going to do everything he can to get him back, no matter what. No matter who is standing in his way."

Beginning with War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 in May from Soule and artist Steve McNiven, the storyline will then expand to a five-issue War of the Bounty Hunters miniseries (with art by Luke Ross). However, we will also be able to follow these events in Star Wars, Bounty Hunters, Darth Vader, and Doctor Aphra.

It makes sense for Marvel Comics to focus on Boba Fett after his popularity surged thanks to The Mandalorian, and getting to spend a little more time with the bounty hunter should be a blast. The event will run until October, and we then won't have long to wait before The Book of Boba Fett hits Disney+.

I'd like to think he has to pretend Han is still conscience since Han has so many people he owes money to. I'm thinking it's the star wars equivalent of weekend at Bernie's

Obviously no one know yet how this plays out, but in just looking at the illustrations of this article, it almost TO ME looks like he is having serious thoughts about dethawing Han to perhaps assist him escape whatever predicament they may be in. That would certainly be a pretty neat twist to a story we thought knew how it played out. We’ll see !

I remember this story when it was called Shadows Of The Empire. Very lazy Lucasfilm.

I'm pretty sure this was already a storyline in the EU.

Is this the Stephen Platt cover he’s doing an homage to?

@ElJefe - I heard that Rob Liefield bought Steven Platt a Ford GT to jump to Image Comics.

@marvel72 - Yeah I heard the same! Haha he wasn’t easy to work with, super slow and always needed help (based on Rob’s podcast) but damn his covers are vintage 90s superhero porn at its best! Love them all.
