It may be hard to believe, but it's been three years since Thor Odinson lost his ability to wield Mjolnir at the hands of an aging Nick Fury. 2014's Original Sin event saw the God of Thunder neutralized by Fury, who spoke three mysterious words that left Thor "unworthy". Fans have been very eager to learn what could have possibly brought the Odinson to his knees, and now Unworthy Thor #5 has revealed the surprising sentence:

"Gorr was right." Gorr of course, is the "God Butcher", a villain first introduced in 2013's Thor: God of Thunder, who took an oath of vengeance upon the gods after years of having his and his families' prayers go unanswered. Gorr built a "Godbomb" to slay them all, and it took Thor teaming up with his past and future selves in order to defeat him. While they fought, Gorr taunted Thor with his viewpoint on the gods:

“You know I’m right. That’s why you fight so hard. Why you try so desperately hard to seem noble. Because you see just how petty and useless your kind truly are. You know what I know. That gods have never created or cared for anything except themselves.”

It seems that Thor was brought down by his own self-doubt in the end. How this will play out in the future - and what it has to do with Jane Foster and the new "War Thor" - remains to be seen. Let us know what you think of these new developments in the comments!

That's actually an awesome reveal. I honestly feel that it gives the character a lot of depth and actually is a good reason for him to be humbled.

@MonsieurCringe - I like it...haven't really kept up with Thor but I loved the gorr arc

@MonsieurCringe - Normally when I see a reveal from a marvel comic posted on this website I shake my head, but this one I really like. One of those, "Why didn't I think of that" kind of simple reveals.

I don't believe it. Why would Thor take Fury's word for it?

@TheFamousJMC - seriously, the fux does Fury know?

@scapegoatjones - Fury had the eyes of the Watcher in Original Sin. I would assume that's why.

A few of my friends seem to be disappointed with this story, but I loved it. It's an amazing run on an otherwise stale character. Jason Aaron has made a Thor fan of me!

Until this reveal I truly thought Marvel would come up with something absolutely stupid, or wouldn't even come up with anything at all. Gladly I was incredibly wrong, as they actually added SO MUCH to the character with that... It's an incredible evolution and an amazing thought this one Thor had, that moment. I think, personally, that perceiving himself as unworthy is what makes him, ultimately, the worthy Thor.

That is dumb , So the Gods aren't worthy to wield it but humans are ? For thousands of years Thor has been trying to do what is right what credentials does a human have to beat that .

@thunderforce - No that's not true. Thor's perception of the roles of gods have changed. When you think about it they're just super powered humans.

@thunderforce - What Fury has nothing to do with Mjolnir, though??
Ok, let me explain this like you're five years old:
-Gorr says gods are useless.
-Thor doesn't think much of his word because at the end of the day he's a villain.
-Fury, a trusted...friend, says Gorr was right.
-Thor starts wondering if he truly was right.
-Mjolnir basically breaks up with Thor because he thinks he's not good enough.
-Mjolnir has a sexy phase with Jane.

@Melkac - I never said anything about Fury and no human should be wielding Mjolnir . Insults or no insults I still think it is dumb .

@Deonox - What super powered human hears prayers like Thor does? Nothing about the Asgardians scream "super powered humans".

@thunderforce - Mjolnir can be used by literally any race, that's not what it takes a look at when someone tries to use it.
That's the entire point of the Beta Ray Bill story.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time believing that just whispering those words cause Thor to completely doubt himself without some other catalysts.
Deonox

@SpideyQuad - Fury had the eyes of the watcher, the wisdom of a cosmic entity that surpasses Asgardians deemed them unworthy

@Doomsday8888 - Do you get some sort of rise out of being a negative nancy. You haven't even seen a single scene from the film. Also, your acting as though Thor has never been humorous in the comics when he has....plenty of times.
