On July 19, 2018, we lost the King of the Sweaties, Jon Schnepp. He passed away a few days after suffering from a catastrophic stroke. At 51 years old, he leaves this world too soon-- but we will remember him.

He'll be remembered for his infections love for all things comic book related, directing The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?, his work on Metalocalypse, hosting AMC Movie Talk, Collider Movie Talk, and Collider Heroes. He was like a fun friend that we got to hang out with! What did Schnepp mean to you?

Statement From Collider:

"It is with immense sadness that we confirm that Jon Schnepp passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018.

As the host of Collider Heroes and frequent panelist on Collider Movie Talk and other Collider shows, videos, and panels, Jon was a vital and irreplaceable part of the Collider family, and we are all deeply upset by this tragic news. He was a key creative force in the animated series Metalocalypse, worked on the animated series The Venture Bros. and the Black Panther animated series. And recently, Jon made his feature debut by directing the terrific 2015 documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? with his partner Holly Payne producing it.

Schnepp’s passion for art was infectious, and his knowledge—especially when it came to comic books—was legendary. He was a fan first and foremost, and the excitement with which he discussed film, comics, stories, and storytellers was palpable.

On this video, Mark Ellis reads the statement from Holly and Jon’s family and our statement from Collider on the passing of our beloved Jon Schnepp. We ask that you respect the privacy of Jon’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all those who knew him, or were fans of Jon, as he leaves behind a legacy of love and passion that will never be forgotten. We also ask that you please consider donating to the immense medical costs on Holly’s official GoFundMe page. One more time… Sweaties, unite."

RIP Jon Schnepp

@permaturenut -
Yeah, I've seen him in Collider Video and AMC Movie Talk. Seemed like a cool guy who really knew his stuff. I honestly hate hearing news like this. 51 is too young to pass, if you ask me. I give my condolences to his family and the people he knew.

I’m very sad he didn’t get to see Avengers 4. He’ll be excited about all these footage that dropped during comic con if he were still alive. R.I.P Jon Schnepp.

It's heartbreaking and keeps popping into my mind. When a fellow movie lover passes, it hits hard. Knowing that he'll never get to see the movies that he was looking forward to, the movies that we all have the privilege of watching. Knowing that he was robbed of his passion in life, and that his friends and family will never be able to watch a movie again with him sitting next to them.

I was fortunate to have me to him in Chicago a few years back. The convention had screwed up and left all his booth information out of all the maps and publications and once my sister and I finally found him he just took it all with good humor and was a genuinely awesome and kind guy. I asked him a few Questions about Superman Lives and my little sister asked about Metalocalypse. Again, he was a trully neat guy.

Such a wonderful guy, I've never really been hit by the passing of a celebrity, but this hit hard. Glad I got to know about him and see what a great, knowledgeable and funny person he was. I will miss all of what he would have had to say about future films and comics. Breaks my heart that he won't read/see the comics, movies and trailers in the future, but I like to think he is able to watch and read all that and more up there in the sky.

Very sad news and I keep thinking about him and his family. I met Schnepp once a bit over a month ago in Columbus and he was cool and down to earth. My heart goes out to his fiancé and family. Wish I could’ve met him at another comic-con, RIP to the Sweatiest of Sweaties.
