More Pictures of Thor, Loki & Odin's Helmet Display for Marvel Studio's THOR Movie

One of the definitive highlights of today's Comic Con revelations was the unveiling of the THOR movie helmet display at the Marvel booth. Check out all the images I snagged after fighting through the crowds.

Today was my third day at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con International extravaganza. It was chock full of wonderful surprises! Joss Whedon is officially locked in to direct The Avengers. We're one step closer to having a Hank Pym/Ant-Man announcement. The Walking Dead panel and trailer was PHENOMENAL. And, of course, the unveiling of Asgardian helmets at the Marvel booth. Take a look at these images which show different views of Odin's, Loki's, and Thor's helmets:

I just talked to one of my Marvel associates who told me I may get to have a hands on session with the helmets tomorrow night!

And if that wasn't enough, look who took over Odin's throne room:

To answer your question as to why Thor wears a helmet, I think in this case it's more of a regality idea than an actual protective helmet. Notice how Odin's helmet is a combination of Loki's and Thor's. These two are the sons of Odin and are represented as such by wearing elements of their father's crown. I see it more of the signs of royalty.

@wolverinesfury: I was one of the people who was all into the helmets, but I love your comment. I found it to be humorous.

I think it would be cool if Loki had that long hair running down from the back of his helmet at some point in the movie.

Actually, it looks like the back slit of Loki's helmet could open for some possible hair.

ONE MORE THING!

There are at least 15 girls dressed a Princess Leia in her "slave girl" metal bikini at SDCC. AT LEAST 15! What's the deal? I mean: I loved the metal bikini as much as any little boy who grew up on "Star Wars" but even so. Maybe some people should pick stuff that is less traditional to wear to SDCC.

@wolverinesfury: What? Its from Da comics...DUH! Those helmets look awesome Jack Kirby would be proud if he was alive! And he would be ashamed of fantastic 4 lol...

My point is its awesome! Yeah 10 pound heavy looking metal helmet! I Got a grip now. "I now go in solitude to enjoy my bottle of asgardian helmet milk sucking on that". Ahhhhh... it aint so sucky now is it not? ;)
TheQuestion
TheQuestion - 7/23/2010, 7:24 PM
@Wolverinesfury: To give you a solid answer, Thor is indeed a god, but so is everyone else in Asgard. Anyone in that realm with a weapon is capable of seriously hurting Thor, though he would heal quickly. So mostly all the warriors in that realm where armor to protect themselves in battle, Thor included. He doesn't have to worry much about a mortal hurting him, unless they have a mystical weapon of significant power.

Isn't the picture of Thor kneeling in front of Odin the scene where he was supposedly getting his helmet, and the frost giants may come and smash everything up? Maybe he'll wear it during that scene before he gets banished...

@ Wolverine'sFury: I will list and address all your misconceptions.

1) This kind of god is not completely indestructible. He wears a war helmet when he goes to war as part of his protective armor. Try to imagine if Superman went up against another Superman or someone from the same planet with the same powers. being equal in strength they would both sustain injury. That's how it is with the Asgardian gods. By human standards they ARE virtually invulnerable. But from godly standards they aren't.

2)Thor DOES NOT get ALL his godly power from his hammer. His strength, longevity and supernatural resistance to injury are natural and native to all Asgardians. THOR is stronger than any of the others because his mother was the non Asgardian demi-god Gaea. AND because his father is Odin, part of the Odin force is available to him.
The hammer, the title, and the MANTLE of GOD OF THUNDER grants him numerous other powers including control over storms, thunder and lightening and the power of flight.

3) There's absolutely nothing wrong with people wanting Thor to have a helmet. Nothing at all.
And any asshole that wants to pretend that the look of the character doesn't matter, well then go right ahead and kid yourself. But comics are a visual medium, and classically Thor wears a helmet. It's only natural for people to want a visual they can identify with. Besides, what's wrong with a little authenticity? nada.
