RUMOR: Marvel Skipping Comic-Con Because They're Scared Of Warner Bros.' DC Comics Panel
That's right! According to a new report, there's only one reason Marvel has decided not to hold a Hall H panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con; they know that they can't compete with what Warner Bros. is bringing to the table with movies like Batman v Superman and Justice League...
If I had to hazard a guess as to why Marvel are skipping Comic-Con this year, I'd say it has something to do with the fact that they just don't need to show up. They generated headlines worldwide in 2014 when they held the "Marvel Event" to unveil their Phase 3 slate, and showing off a few minutes of footage a little under a year before a movie is released to a few thousand people who would cheer like lunatics for a photo of Robert Downey Jr. eating his lunch really don't help ticket sales all that much. In short, Comic-Con just isn't as important as most people believe.
Regardless, Heroic Hollywood claims to know the real reason why they won't be there. Apparently, "Marvel felt it couldn't compete with the upcoming DC panel from Warner Brothers" and they "found out internally that Warners is going supernova with their DC presentation which will include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, and Wonder Woman," and simply decided that they didn't have enough to top that presentation. That's said to be because they wouldn't have enough footage from Captain America: Civil War ready, and with the new Spider-Man not set to report to set until July, they can't even show him off in action.
