Charlie Cox Talks SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Return And His Future Hopes For Daredevil In The MCU

Charlie Cox has finally addressed his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home, talking about the secrecy surrounding the project and his hopes for Matt Murdock/Daredevil in this shared world moving forward...

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox reprised the role of Matt Murdock for an amazing scene featuring the Man Without Fear offering Peter Parker some legal advice. That was it, unfortunately, but we've since heard there are big plans for Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.

Now, Cox has commented on his Daredevil return for the first time in an interview with Supanova Comic Con & Gaming. "It was a nightmare," he laughed, reflecting on having to keep his No Way Home role a secret. "Obviously, it’s now known that I’m in Spider-Man. So, yeah. But more than that, I don’t know, and the little I do know, I’m obviously not going to say. But the only thing I would say is that for a long time I was asked these questions and I genuinely had not heard anything."

"For years, I have been asked questions about returning as Daredevil, and the genuine truth was I 100% assumed that was gone, that ship had just sailed," he continued. "I didn’t hear from any of the folks at Marvel for a couple of years. It does now look like I was lying for a long time, I actually wasn’t, I was only lying for a little bit of time. You still don’t want to spoil it for people."

As for his MCU future, the Daredevil star shared his hopes to be a big part of this shared world. "The one thing that being in the MCU allows that we couldn't really do with the Netflix stuff, is that I can now interact with other MCU characters. Crossovers [are] the thing I would like to do next. There are some really interesting stories there that I'd love for the character to explore."

"I don't want to sound greedy, but I hope I get to do loads more," Cox added, making his love for 'ol Hornhead clear. "I hope I get to be involved way, way more for many years. I hope it never ends. I hope it gets to the point where people are like, ‘You are too old to be playing this part.'"

With rumours swirling about plans for Daredevil in She-Hulk and Echo, it appears we can expect Cox to have a bright future in the MCU. We've also heard that the character will don his red and yellow costume from the comic books, so Kevin Feige clearly has plans to put a fresh spin on the hero.

@MrDandy - But with the red suit, not the red and yellow one, please, Feige. 🙏

Even the Netflix one would be fine imo, wouldn't mind some improvements or slight changes, but nothing too different would be necessary imo.

@McMurdo - Yeah he is! I couldn't imagine anyone else on earth doing better at it. Perfect Daredevil. Perfect Matt Murdock.

And man, I love hearing him say this. Perfect actors don't come along for these roles every day. So to hear him say he wants to be Daredevil until he's too old to do it just makes me happy. Especially since DD is one of my top 3 superheroes.

Really hope he shows up in She-Hulk (just not like in the leaks), Echo, Moon Knight and obviously Spider-Man 4. Not just because he did great in already great show, but also because the character fits in with those other stories.

Kevin - Give this man all he wants. You literally couldn't create another actor more perfect for Daredevil. He is one of the casting triumphs of the MCU.

@KingLeonidas - wait, they're creating actors at marvel studios? Guess this explains Tom Holland.

I mean, they comitted to it, right? They can't just back out of it, pick a different actor or never do a Daredevil story. We'll definitely get more Daredevil.

We also NEED to have Wilson Bethel return too! He was so good as Bullseye. Really want to see him shine more in the MCU.

BTW, it's always a B E A U T I F U L thing to hear an actor express how long he/she wishes to play a character. It's that compassion for the character that never leaves the actor and the audiences can see that. Keep Cox as Daredevil for as long as he wishes. No shade to Holland, but it's just so simple. If you love the role nothing should cause you to question returning or even speak of anyone else taking over. That is your role! Own it and embrace it!
