Joe Carnahan Reveals Who He Would Have Liked To Play DAREDEVIL

Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) came very close to helming a reboot of Daredevil for 20th Century Fox before the rights ended up reverting to Marvel Studios. On Twitter last night, the filmmaker has revealed the actor who he thinks would have been "tremendous" for the role.

Earlier this year, it looked as if Joe Carnahan (The Grey) would be bringing a Frank Miller inspired take on 'The Man Without Fear' to the big screen in a reboot of Daredevil for 20th Century Fox. Unfortunately, those plans fell through when Marvel Studios got their hands back on the rights to the character, although Carnahan hasn't completely left the world of comic books behind after recently beginning work on an adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Nemesis. Taking to his official Twitter account (@carnojoe) last night, the filmmaker told CBM's own @TheAlexLynch97 who he thinks would have been a good choice for the role of Matt Murdock.

Joel Edgerton is best known for his impressive turn in Warrior, although you may also recognise him from Star Wars and The Thing. Carnahan doesn't say that the actor was ever up for the role, but it's still interesting to wonder what might have been. What do you guys think about this news?

Id say Philip Winchester for the role in the MCU.

as long as marvel don't make him an avenger i'm fine,he's a lone hero that doesn't belong on a team.

same as spider-man,don't mind them teaming up with the avengers but not being full time members.

daredevil, punisher, moon knight & blade should be saved for more adult themed movies.

Marvel will not make a Daredevil film soon if ever.

This reverting back is actually bad news. Now this project won't even have a chance of being good as I'm quite certain Marvel will never do anything with him.

THEWONDERER

Well.....Unlike a certain company, Marvel is not afraid to take chances with their not-so famous characters (hence, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, ANT-MAN). If anything, Daredevil could be used to set up a sub-cinematic universe within the MCU to introduce more of their street-level properties.

@thewonderer - why wouldn't Marvel make a new Daredevil movie? He's a pretty popular character.

@RadicalDuck

he doesn't fit their current formula and genre

marvel is all about fantasy and cosmic stuff atm and very fun family friendly tone

dare devil is marvel's batman he is the dark avenger he is a street centric super hero with no real super powers and lives in the darkness

an ideal dd movie should be a dark gritty crime drama

that is not marvel's forte

@thewonderer gee, I didn't know that you're aware of Marvels plans & if the movie is going to be good or not!!smdh

I believe they will do DD movie. Hell, I think they still want to do a Punisher reboot.

I want MARVEL to make a PUNISHER V.S DAREDEVIL movie; neither one of these characters have a rouge's gallery strong enough to carry their own movies (See: Kingpin, a Spider-man Villain). And, all their outings as singular heroes have been lackluster at the box-office, it's why MARVEL has the rights back. I think that these two would work, perfectly, well on film together.

dare
devil
pun

let's go

These two make the best frienemies in the MARVEL universe.

Same here. All we need now is Fantastic Four back and that'll be great. I could really careless about the X-Men movie franchise at this point

They wouldn't make daredevil for a long time b/c they have other characters to make movies about unlike daredevil who has already had a movie.

@SageMode Don't even get me started on F4, you know how I feel about that!lol I understand why you feel that way about the X-Men movie rights.

As for the others, what if Marvel said that their DD movie would be influenced by Miller/Bendis/Brubaker's run on DD? What would y'all say then?

Could you imagine how cool it would be for Silver Surfer and Galactus to be apart of the MCU? Seeing Thor and Surfer going at it? Having Avengers, GOTG, and FF teaming up to save the planets/universe from being eaten/destroyed by Big G? And what Whedon helming the flick.....that would definitely knock Avatar's ass down at the box office.

MARVEL72

Honestly I never really was impressed with the X-Men movies. They were cool when they first came out cause it was the first time seeing them on the big screen. But they were just eh IMO.

Guys, don't say anything negative about Marvel Studios, even if they do take 10 or more years to release a Daredevil movie when there was already a promising one in the works that would have been ready a year or two from now. Even when Marvel does nothing they can do no wrong.

Of course Marvel will do something with Daredevil. They just weren't expecting to get him thrown back in their lap (hence why they tried to cut the Galactus/Silver Surfer deal). Phase 2 has been in the works for years. You just don't throw Daredevil in production with no plan because now you can. I'm sure they want to do it right and will take the time they need. Have a little faith.

I agree- a TV based Daredevil courtroom drama/legal thriller type show would be awesome. You don't need the big budgets for something like that. Just cast lead actors who don't mind doing the small screen but who could carry a big budget film as well (kind of like the Star Trek Next Generation movies worked).
