FATMAN ON BATMAN Host Kevin Smith Reveals Which DCEU Film He’d Like To See Peter Jackson Helm

With the recent reports that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is weighing up either a return to Middle-Earth or an entry into the DCEU for Warner Bros, speculation has been rampant about just which DC property the acclaimed director would be a good fit for.

Now Kevin Smith, who has turned from celebrated indie director to geek spokesperson, has revealed via his podcast Fatman On Batman which project he would like to see the Lovely Bones director helm.

"Not to take anything away from Ava, but like yeah, that [New Gods] would have been right up his alley considering [frick]ing Lord of the Rings. Honestly, give him like, I know people will be like 'too soon' but let that mother[frick]er at the Justice League, man, like suddenly you'd probably have the one you wanted to see, I would imagine. Maybe not."

While a New Gods film is obviously spoken for with A Wrinkle in Time's Ava DuVernay at the helm and a new Justice League film highly unlikely to occur anytime soon, a fan present at the podcasts taping suggested an adaptation of Alex Ross' Kingdom Come. Which got the Dogma director very excited.

"Kingdom Come? [frick] yes! Why aren't you running a studio, man? Kingdom [frick]ing Come at the hands of that guy? Oh, we'd all Kingdom Come."

What do you think of this idea? Would you like to see Jackson tackle Kingdom Come? What project would you like him to helm? Leave your thoughts below.

@Imfunnyhow - It's strange that I didn't get a message in my inbox. Anyway, I wasn't referring to Kevin Smith.

If this was early 2000's Peter Jackson I would say yes, but The Hobbit trilogy left a bad taste in my mouth

honestly, i wanna see jackson return to his schlocky b-movie roots by taking an obscure dc property and doing something totally comedically-wretched with it.

See, I'd be excited about a Peter Jackson Justice League movie if it weren't for the stench of painful mediocrity the first Justice League movie left behind and the fact that Jackson's own filmography has really gone downhill recently.

If it's Lord of the Rings quality, then I'm all for it. If it's The Hobbit quality... well the first Justice League movie already managed that without him.

Peter Jackson dissed the superhero genre a few years ago. And that report seemed kinda out of nowhere, and something that could've easily been embellished for the rumor mill.

Why did you have to remind me of that shit?

If those movies had the same qualitylevel as the hobbit, then they would no doubt be worse than what we‘ve already got.

Kingdom Come? They need to be moving away from that kind of stuff. No more skipping ahead. Just establish these characters and this universe. Tell the stories that made these characters so popular in the first place.

And Peter Jackson might be the kind where you just need to give him his little corner of the universe like Hawkman or Green Lantern and let him do his thing, and then let someone else borrow Hawkman or Hal Jordan for big crossovers.

@TheUnworthyThor - kingdom come is one of the best DC stories, but i see your point on needing foundation
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 5/21/2018, 5:21 AM
@Pierce - Yeah, it’s a great story, but one that was built upon 60 years of great stories and doesn’t work without that foundation. But with movies like Aquaman and Shazam coming out yeah then in like maybe 15 years an awesome version could be told.

@TheUnworthyThor - 100% agree. That was Snyder's issue with trying to skip ahead to do Death of Superman, Dark Knight Returns, and even the Injustice storyline all at once. Yes, those are fantastic stories and we're all excited for them, but you can't jump right into those from nowhere. WB needs to learn patience. It paid off for Marvel.

I agree that they need to do a lot of world building before the "big events" but given the scale I would live to see him do Darkest Night.

@MitchPerfect - Do you mean Blackest Night?
BloodyBed
BloodyBed - 5/21/2018, 7:02 AM
@MitchPerfect - but none of the heroes are dead, and we haven’t even gotten a proper green lantern movie.

We shouldn’t get blackest night until justice league 4 or something. If we should get it at all.

The amount of buildup you need for blackest night is insane, I don’t know if the movie medium can tackle it.

Give him a character most people don't give a crap about. Ambush Bug.

Seriously I would love for him to do Blue Devil in the style of The Frighteners. Since the the comic had a comedic style.

Idk if kingdom come should be adapted. It’s very complicated, very cerebral, very religious, and wayyyy too good for the hacks at the dceu to adapt properly.

Kingdom Come ... in 3 parts. 6 different cuts and a lot of walking between scenes.
