Rob Liefeld Shares His Thoughts On DEADPOOL's R-Rating From The Set Of The Movie

Deadpool is finally happening, and creator Rob Liefeld has shared a lengthy Instagram post from the set of the movie in which he discusses the R-Rating, his disappointment with the character's portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and why this adaptation "is all that you've been waiting for".

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld recently paid a visit to the set of the movie which stars Ryan Reynolds, and shared a pretty heartwarming take on why he's excited about the adaptation via his Instagram account. Sharing the above photo of himself and the actor who will bring Wade Wilson to life on February 12, 2016, he goes into detail about the Merc with the Mouth's long journey to the big screen. Congrats to Team Deadpool on each and every victory along the Deadpool highway! The R rating ensures the film will be unique and faithful to the amazing vision of the filmakers Tim Miller, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Ryan freakin' Reynolds!! DEADPOOL RANT....So you're thinking, "of course Liefeld, you brought Deadpool to life, what else are we to expect but you to cheer, homer." Let's get something straight, after Wolverine:Origins I went on the apology tour, for those many umpteen thousands of you who came up to me at the bazillion conventions I do and asked me "Hey, Liefeld, what did you think of Deadpool in Wolverine:Origins?" you saw me smile through gritted teeth and give a very deliberate response "Well, it's a good start.." Because I already knew that there were plans underway to restore Deadpool and that given the opportunity, the new team that Ryan was assembling would produce the film we all wanted. But I knew that I couldn't apologize twice, I couldn't smile through gritted teeth any longer, this one would have to be earned. Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick came on board and wrote the most amazing, exciting, unique comic book script I'd ever read. Even my Marvel pals have confided and said, "Wow, that Deadpool script...That's spectacular..It should get made" but it didn't. And years passed and management at Fox passed and executives came and went, each unable to move it forward. During this time, the outstanding Tim Miller stepped into the directors chair to guide the film and from the word go, he started making things happen. I saw storyboards, costume designs and animatics. The vision was becoming a reality and that amazing test reel footage was shot and I thought for certain that the film would be on its way to a green light. Then...more waiting. And here we are, this outstanding vision is being filmed and prepared for a Feb. 12th 2016 release date. I can tell you that you are in for a cinematic comic book experience unlike any you have experienced! Deadpool is all that you've been waiting for and a round of applause to Tim, Rhett, Paul, Ryan and Simon Kinberg for seeing it through! #robliefeld #deadpool

I really hope they didn't change the script too much, that script was perfect and only few people have read it, let alone remember it so it should be all good

@Kong

I really hope they didn't change the skeleton of it too much though, would be a shame if that script went to waste, honestly one of the best scripts I've ever read hands down

Rob Liefeld has nothing to do with the current Deadpool we know today. That's all Joe Kelly.

And never forget that like Frank Miller, Rob Liefeld is a hack

Wow was so looking forward to deadpool but if that jackass liefeld says it's good then I might have to reduce my expectation levels, he wouldn't know good writing if it walked up and kicked him in the nads.

@doopie pretty much, I read it a while back. man talk about [frick]ing awesome, the highway sequence alone, is [frick]ing hysterical. to all my fellow dp fans who are in the dark. trust me, if its anything like the script I read, jizz will be flying everywhere. it would be considered in my top five, would easily be considered for best adaption in Oscars. the ending where they take out a building using colossus. TOOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. this movie. will blow, your mind.

Liefeld is a total hack. He wanted to be Art Adams (and has said as much), he just has no grasp of body proportions and perspective, and is too lazy to actually create backgrounds.

Cable is the Terminator. His one lit eye comes from the Art Adam's creation Longshot.

Deadpool is not a Deathstroke ripoff like a lot of people say but is actually Spider-Man visually and personality-wise crossed with the healing factor and murdering spirit of Wolverine.

Youngblood was a direct Avengers rip-off.

Nothing he has done has any originality at all.

@SnapperCarr... Wtf is that??!!??!?!? It's so... Chest sticks out so far! Ab muscles transition terrible, he has no d!ck, torso is way to short vertically, and where is the rest of that giant arm? How is it folded up behind that shield? This picture broke my brain. In art school, there were students who were really good at drawing at drawning 1 part of the body... either arms or hands or such. However, they would draw that part first, and then try to form the rest of the body around where that finished part. It never worked. Clearly the artist here has a similar issue. The proportions on this are so bad.

@AXE - I hope they didn't change it too much as well. It was perfect for Deadpool movie. Had everything you need, want, expect plus more.

As much as everyone else hates Rob Liefeld, I will never feel the same. For 6 reasons:

Deadpool
Cable
Domino
Copycat
Stryfe
Shatterstar

Is Liefeld pissed that Fox changed his original design by giving Deadpool feet?

There is a whoooole lot of crying in this thread. Get better at drawing, get hired at a major comic book studio, create a movie worthy character, then come in here and cry you weepy nerd babies.

"Frank Miller a hack"

The guy who made the industry what it is.
I love this revisionist history by you kids that hear stuff from other kids on the internet.

Him losing his touch in these last years and becoming senile doesn't take any of the genius of his yesteryears.

Keep taking potshpots at a man on his deathbed.

I'm usually really calm and not one to be an Internet tough guy, but if you said that to me IRL I'd deck you.

@Mercwithmouth yeah people get annoyed with liefeld coz he's a hack and also people like Louise simonson who co created cable and Fabian nieceza who wrote most of the initial runs get no credit.

I remeber reading the script (but it was so long ago that I don't remember everything that was in it). It's the only movie script i've ever read and I do remember being amazed by it. I hope they stick close to that script, if so we are def in for a treat.

I think Deadpool will be the best Marvel movie since Spider-Man 2.

Yes that includes Sony, MCU, & Fox.

Look. I get where @SnapperCarr is coming from. While Frank's Daredevil run is epic and his Batman Year One & Dark Knight Returns is legendary, the problem with Frank is how he wrote Superman in TDKR and also his Dark Knight Strikes Again and All-Star Batman.

Frank is still a legend but IMO he isn't as great or really as talented as Grant Morrison who wrote awesome Justice League & X-Men runs with featured numerous characters and all were well written and no character felt like they weren't written with respect. Or Jeph Loeb who wrote hands down the best Batman comic and best Spider-Man comic and wrote great Superman, Daredevil, Hulk (Hulk: Grey not Rulk), and Superman/Batman runs.

Just my opinion and how I feel about Frank. Nothing but love for him and what he did for Bats and DD but there are better writers.
