Ryan Reynolds Updates On DEADPOOL Movie

While chatting to Total Film, the R.I.P.D actor describes waiting for the long-planned Deadpool flick to materialize as being like "the worst relationship I've ever had!" It does seem that Reynolds is still interested, but for how much longer? Read on for more..

We've been hearing about a solo movie outing for the Merc With A Mouth since X-Men Origins: Wolverine left fans disappointed (putting it mildly) with our first big-screen incarnation of the character back in 2009. We know there's a script -- a brilliant one at that -- from Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and there's even a director attached in Tim Miller, but for a variety of reasons the movie has just never managed to get off the ground. Ryan Reynolds is apparently still on board to reprise the role of Wade Wilson, but he sounds like he's getting a little frustrated with the situation in an interview with Total Film. He also reveals a bit of info from the highly praised script.

"That movie is alive and kicking, and then it's dead as a doornail. Then it's alive and kicking and then it's dead… it's like the worst relationship I've ever had! The character knows he's a comic-book character, he knows he's in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie. In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn't say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity."

Foe more pick up the new issue of Total Film, out now.

Ryan Reynolds + CBMs = shit

*see X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern, & RIPD

You haven;t seen RIPD yet, Reynolds was prob the best thing in Origins, and he was also a decent Hal Jordon..Green Lantern would have sucked no matter who played that role.
AshleyWilliams
AshleyWilliams - 7/6/2013, 6:34 AM
He was fantastic as Wade Wilson and pretty decent as Hal Jordan. Also, if given a better script, he would be the perfect Hal.

He;s just been really unlucky so far. I'm tellin, ya that script IS Reynolds all the way. After reading it I couldn't picture anyone else in the role. I hope he can do it.

I'm not a huge Ryan Reynolds fan and I really don't like deadpool, but Ryan Reynolds is perfect for deadpool.

Reynolds may be a terrible actor for the most part but he's funny, handsome , rich, and nails chicks way hotter than any of us can get

The main reason Deadpool movie hasnt been made (same with other solo movies) its because X-Men Origins: Wolverine didnt have a great boxoffice at all.

If it would have made more than $400m, Fox would have pushed more solo movies right after. Thats why we got First Class, instead.

And I guess The Wolverine numbers will determinate the future of new solo movies too. Lets see what happens.

I don't generally like his comedy roles, but I think he does pretty well in serious roles (such as in CBMs). I really liked his take on Wade Wilson and Hal Jordan (the problem with GL was the writing, not Reynolds), and I think a Deadpool movie with him is a good idea. I think Reynolds can do a really funny, dark, and childish take on the character. Hopefully, the success of the video game will help move the movie forward.
Oh, and he plays with his own action figure in the script? GENIUS.

After the Deadpool game, and his upcoming appearance on Ultimate Spider-Man, i think execs of whatever company will see that he does make money and they will put the movie through (but it needs a rewrite)

Ryan reynolds for Deadpool though. Nobody else, and if they are going to do voices in his head, have Nolan North be the only voice (yellow boxes)

every comic book movie reynolds has been in is bad & under performed at the box office.

-blade trinity
-x-men origins wolverine
-green lantern

we'll have to wait & see how well ripd does.

@Levi, Ryan wasn't the problem with those films. In fact he was the best thing in blade 3 and origins. His performance in blade 3 proved that he is THE guy to play deadpool.

I think this movie is better forgotten about until we hear it is actually officially filming because we just get our hopes up every time we hear any news...

Yeah…it's clear he doesn't give a shit otherwise he would have pushed for it to get made and stop making other stupid films

What scared me, was the thought of him playing Connor MacLeod. Thank God that ain't gonna happen now!

Reynolds has just been unlucky with his CBM choices.. Not Reynolds fault. Green Lantern failed due to the script. Reynolds was a good Hal, he was great in origins (So since the film failed, Hugh should never play Wolverine? Or Live as Sabertooth?) BTW Hugh, Liex, Kevin (Blob) and Ryan all did great! O and RDJ sucked as Tony cause Iron Man 2 sucked... and fans hated Iron Man 3....

Id like to see this film eventually made (Soon)Itd wouldn't be a success like Man of Steel, Avengers, The Dark Knight Trilogy etc because average film goers wouldn't go to the midnight screening or opening weekend, but eventually people would go see it if they were intreasted. Im curious how the script would be, villain, story etc...

It is too bad that Ryan Reynolds was cast as Green Lantern, as he would have been better cast as the Flash in the DC Universe. Other actors would have made a better Hal Jordan (Nathan Fillion would have been great). Still, he did what he could with Green Lantern and the problems with that film were not his fault. He's a talented actor who would make a great Deadpool.

RIPD looks funny, even if it is a rip-off of MIB. I'll see it unless the reviews are uniformly bad.

Gmoney84 - 7/6/2013, 7:18 AM
Green Lantern could've been so awesome with the right script and director. Reynolds wasn't a bad Hal Jordan.
MrDonut
MrDonut - 7/6/2013, 7:19 AM
Reynolds is a talented actor, Buried n Safe House proved that, but he sucks so much ass in CBM's, so frankly I wouldn't even mind if he never touched another in his life

I think he would've made a perfect Flash, but he was Ok. The problem is, Reynolds isn't the type of actor that's going to lift a movie, but there is no denying he is a really good actor.

I hate to say this, but this movie shouldn't be happening. The only way I can see this being good is if they get someone like Queinten Tarintino to direct.

A Deadpool movie before a Deathstroke movie? Wow...Just wow.

Why do people say Green Lantern would've still sucked? Why? Its one of the best selling comics.

@rormachine how do you know that the script "is Reynolds all the way" you haven't read it either and to say you have is bs.

With the suces of the Deadpool game, you'd think that the movie would be greenlit. I wanna see how insane they can make it. I think Ryan Reynolds is Wade Wilson's pick for who plays him, so he's okay with me, but he needs to bring his A game. Origins was a perfect Wade Wilson, but Deadpool is a step up from that. Reynolds needs to pull the green ring out of his anus if he wants to get it right.

Reynolds is a good actor...what really makes me laugh is the fact that people still want a Deadpool movie based on the "Deadpool" he played in Origins.....bunch of retards.

Sadly I think this would have a better chance of being made if it could be done like Dredd. Smaller budget, not extremely high profile actors but true to source. This will never happen with Reynolds

Some of you are idiots. Have you read the script? It is fantastic. One of the best I've ever read, and it SCREAMS Reynolds. I think alot of you are forgetting what character we're talking about and what Ryan does at his best. Watch "Waiting", "Van Wilder", "Two Guys and a Girl", "Smoking Ace's" "The 9's". This dude is Deadpool. [frick]. Even in the comics (Way before Origins was even in the works) Deadpool was asked what he looks like under his mask. His response: "Like a mix between Ryan Reynolds and a Sharpei puppy". Lawyered.

to put it simply, DEADPOOL's just a knock-off of Spiderman and Deathstroke. the character stinks like canal. :)) REYNOLDS is an awesome actor, he brings up the character.

@happy11, the script was leaked a few years ago. A woman was sued for millions because of it. I re-read it just for fun a week ago. Shut your face.
