Writer Rhett Reese On Why Fans Shouldn't Expect Any Major X-MEN Cameos In DEADPOOL 2

Deadpool 2 is already under a lot of pressure as far as sequels go, and writer Rhett Reese has explained why a cameo appearance by an "A-list" X-Men character could undermine the film's purpose.

Aside from trying to outdo its predecessor, Deadpool 2 already has a lot on its plate, including an introduction to new characters Cable and Domino and (apparently) laying the foundation for X-Force. With all that in mind, it still hasn't stopped fans (and even star Ryan Reynolds) from longing for some greater cohesion with the larger X-Men universe, specifically regarding the inclusion of "A-list" characters such as Wolverine or Charles Xavier

Unfortunately, it seems like we'll have to wait a while longer before we see any sort of crossover of that sort. In a chat with Collider, Deadpool 2 writer Rhett Reese explained that while the team always keeps an open mind for special cameos, throwing a major X-Men character into the mix would undermine what Deadpool is all about.

"You kinda don't want a Ferrari in Deadpool unless it's for a real purpose in the sense that Deadpool is a gritty, grimy, smaller thing, with characters you aren't as familiar with. It's a little bit like lovable losers. It's not the A-list of superheroes, necessarily. ... The occasional cameo or appearance by an A-list type person could be really funny and/or dramatic. So we have an eye open for those things, but we don't want to just put people in it because we can now, if that makes sense."

While this may be a little disappointing, the fact that the sequel will be feature the cinematic debut of some fan-favorite characters is sure to be a welcome consolation for many. Do you want to see any major X-Men cameo in future installments of Deadpool? Let us know in the comments!
