DOCTOR STRANGE Director Scott Derrickson Implores People NOT To Watch TENET In A Theater

Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson has taken to social media with a strongly worded message imploring people not to go and watch Christopher Nolan's Tenet on the big screen in the midst of a pandemic!

Yesterday, Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise shared a video on Twitter showing that he had visited a movie theater in London to watch Tenet. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright has also been singing the praises of watching the film on the silver screen, seemingly forgetting that filmgoers are putting themselves at risk by doing so.

One filmmaker who is definitely not on board with their take is Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson.

He took to Twitter recently to implore people not to see Tenet or any other film in a theater (later, he clarified that his Tweet was aimed at cinemas based in the U.S.).

Making his stance clear, Derrickson later Retweeted a Tweet which bluntly says, "If you go see a movie in a theater right now, you are selfishly prolonging this crisis while endangering yourself, your family, and every stranger who may occupy a space you've vacated anywhere you go once you've been infected. You don't care about others. You suck."

There are conflicting opinions on whether it is safe to return, but that's a decision people must make themselves; there are compelling reasons not to put yourself or others at risk, however.

He's allowed to have his opinion of course, which I sort of see his point, but if people want to go, they're gonna go.

It is strange to me however, from a "professional" standpoint, to see one director telling potential moviegoers to avoid another director's film.

@Feralwookiee - "or any other movie"

@Darth258 - Correct, but Tenet was specifically mentioned in the quote he reposted.

Again, I see his point, but if it's "safe" enough to go to the supermarket, get your hair cut, and eat in a resturant...what's so different about watching a movie? I'm just being rhetorical of course, but there just seems to be no real consistency in people's hope for "safety" imo.

@Feralwookiee - Because in supermarkets, barbers and restaurants you don't stay still for 2 or more hours in a closed room full of people..

@Feralwookiee - Haircut. Yeah! I remember those.

@Darth258 - True in most cases, but there's plenty of people who do spend an hour+ grocery shopping. The point is, HOW LONG of a potential exposure is "acceptable"? No one really knows where to draw the line.

But, if office workers can spend 8 hours in a closed room full of people (distanced and wearing masks), why is 2 hours of the same thing, worse?

I'm just looking for consistency with these rules.

@Feralwookiee - especially the selfish point. Apparently he doesnt think theaters are in any danger of going under whatsoever and theres people out there who just want to save a business many people rely on for employment. No. Theres no selfless reason to see a movie in theaters now.
