Has Stan Lee Confirmed DR. STRANGE & BLACK PANTHER For Marvel's Phase 3?

Fans have been speculating on which Marvel heroes would be next to get the big screen treatment since Disney announced not two, but three mystery Phase 3 movies last week. Both Doctor Strange and Black Panther have long been rumored to be next on the list, though we have never had any official word. But now -- while answering a question about those recent Planet Hulk/Civil war rumors -- Stan Lee mentions both characters while revealing which movies are currently being worked on at Marvel.

"I'm not involved in those decisions anymore, but the people at Marvel are spending hours trying to think 'what will we do next?' and there's a damn good chance that they will think of just what you mentioned, 'cos it would be a great idea and little by little everything you want to see will come along, because [Marvel] are just like you, they're fans of the stories and they're trying to think 'what would the fans like to see next? What would we like to see next?' So they're working on Ant-Man, they're working on Doctor Strange, they're working on Guardians of the Galaxy, they're working on god knows what. And did I say Black Panther also. Those are the ones I know about and there are others that I don't even know about, and shame on them for not telling me."

Now it's worth noting that Lee has mentioned both Dr. Strange and Black Panther in the past (quite a few times actually!) as projects the studio was keen to get off the ground, but here he seems to confirm that they are actually in active development along with the likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man. Of course he might just be basing this on what he assumes the studio is gearing up for, but with SDCC right around the corner we'll likely find out very soon one way or the other.

I wouldn't take this as confirmation. He's said this before. Truth is they are working on these. Among many others. Doesn't mean they are coming out anytime soon.

Well obviously we get Dr. Strange. As for BP, that isn't a big surprise. But I'm actually surprised that Marvel 'announced' Dr. Strange before Black Panther...

I got a feeling that they won't make a Black Panther movie, but he will feature in the Avengers movie.

They're gonna have to heavily retcon and retool the outdated Black Panther character and lore for it to work successfully in live action.

@ksommer

Pretty much, a movie can stay in active development for years without ever being given the greenlight.

Doctor Strange is an obvious and Black Panther is a [frick]ing must. Diversity and Black Panther is probably, the most interesting black superhero.

Stan Lee has been talking about Black Panther for almost 5 years now. He's very proud of that character but i just don't think Disney has the balls to spend a 100 million on a movie with a 95% black cast

Off topic but has anybody else heard Marvel is moving TDW release date 9 months? Heard rumblings but cannot confirm or deny

Rumors of Black Panther are completely moot, because it was already officially announced.

Two years ago.

My ideal Phase Three (in order)
Ant-Man
Doctor Strange
Captain America 3
Black Panther
Guardians of the Galaxy
Warbird (Ms. Marvel as a title just sounds so dumb, never liked the name)
Thor 3
Avengers 3.

I want to see these two interact in Phase Five or something

That my friends, feels epic.

If 95% of the cast will be black. The 5% that's white will all be A listers. It'll be like Captain America the Winter Soldier in reverse. lol

Yeah, Dr.Strange dealing with the demon Zarathos is what crosses Dr.Strange and GhostRider's paths. I can't see Dr.Strange and GhostRider meeting each other without fighting initially though.

seyrie
seyrie - 7/1/2013, 10:34 AM
@Demongod20..lol! i hope so. Unless your name is Denzel Washington or Will Smith, hollywood has a hard time greenlighting projects with minority leads. Its just the way it is. It took George Lucas 20 years to get Red Tails made, and even then, no one would market the movie. he had to pay for all that himself.

I hope Marvel sticks their neck out and makes this movie. It could break barriers for black casting in hollywood if its done correctly and makes money.

Blastaar: Who cares, if the story makes sense and obviously if the acting and the action and effects are good, I would love to see them go at it.
