DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Star Elizabeth Olsen On The Movie's Ending & The Scarlet Witch's Future - SPOILERS

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen has commented on the ending of the movie, and the chances of seeing The Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again.

By MarkCassidy - May 06, 2022 04:05 PM EST

WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen makes quite an impression in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as The Scarlet Witch embraces her darker tendencies and "breaks bad" to the point that she really does become a full-on villain.

After massacring the Illuminati (find out how that goes down here) and coming very close to taking America Chavez's life, Wanda ultimately comes to realize how far she's fallen when the reality-hopping hero introduces the now borderline deranged former Avenger to the Multiversal versions of her kids, Billy and Tommy.

Wanda decides to destroy every Darkhold in every universe, and appears to be crushed by the falling debris of Wundagore Mountain. So, is this the last we've seen of the Scarlet Witch?

“There’s a couple different versions of what could happen at the end of this film," Olsen told Extra when asked how she views the climax of the film. "Mostly, I want to hear what the fans who know her best, what they would like to see from her next.”

It's highly unlikely that Marvel Studios would kill this character off in such an ambiguous way, so Olsen will almost certainly reprise the role at some point - although in a separate interview with Harper's Bazaar, the actress did note that she didn't "feel bad saying goodbye to [Wanda].”

Assuming The Scarlet Witch does return, it'll be interesting to see how the character is utilized. Though she did see the error of her ways in the end, a redemption arc after everything she's done might be a bit hard to swallow.

Where do you guys think we'll see Wanda Maximoff in The MCU next?

Hated what they did with her character. Olsen gave it her all though. But…the more I think on this movie the more issues I have. Whatever.

@AmazingFILMporg - Wish I can say that, but I can’t. It undid so much of what WandaVision developed, with so much nuance and layers, and this felt redundant and like a big waste of time. It took the trope Jac Schaeffer carefully avoided with WandaVision, not turning a female character into a psychopath after suffering tragedy, and turned around and did exactly that.

Haven’t been this let down with an MCU film since, Dark World?
To each their own, but this was not for me and I felt it was total betrayal of Wanda’s arc.

@Dope21 - Fool, you’re the troll and everyone knows that. Shut up. You go out of your way to just purposely hate on DC. I love the MCU, and my point stands. How does it prove anything, you tool? That I disagree with what they did with her character? How it took away everything WandaVision set up and set out to do, and undermined her entire arc? You want to seriously talk and get destroyed here, moron? Unlike you, I can give thorough criticism instead of calling things trash. Stop now while you can. You can’t handle this.

I totally disagree. If anything it expanded on her character and the love of a mother is a powerful thing🥺

@AmazingFILMporg - I disagree but I do see how that could have been a powerful point. Just didn’t connect for me. The end of WandaVision, we saw what Agatha explained about the Darkhold, and we see Wanda reading it at the end of course. The seed is there. I would have preferred if we saw her gradually become corrupt over the film. Really pull at those strings and make that a powerful statement. And then give her that ultimate choice: give in at the chance of being with your kids again, or reject it and finally make the ultimate sacrifice there, after having already sacrificed so much. I just think there’s so many better directions it could have gone in, instead of instant heel turn.

@DTor91 - I see where you're coming from. I enjoyed the movie, but it does seem Wanda herself had her growth sacrificed for the sake of the Darkhold. But she's rumored to be getting her own film, so maybe we'll be back on track and a possible reunion with Vision.

@TheHumanSpider2 - That I totally agree with. Olsen just is fantastic though. Definitely one of the best talents brought into the Marvel stable and I think I’ll be just as sad as I was with Downey and Evans when she does fully walk away from the role.

@comicfan100 - Here’s hoping! Definitely don’t think we’ve seen the last of either two, or the kids. They’re going to be crucial to the unofficial Young Avengers that’s slowly being introduced. Perfect opportunity to do a take on Children’s Crusade too.

@SauronthePower - the biggest disappointment is all those returning/rumored actors and the illuminati were completely wasted. I can understand the Iron Man 3 comparison now.

Overall the film is passable. Its more of a slightly worst Civil War and No Way Home but not terrible either.

@DTor91 - It feels like yesterday when they announced her in the role, and most of us were like "one of the twins!?", because we didnt even know they had a younger sister.

They blew it with Pietro (sorry Aaron, they did), but this was a another casting win for Sarah Finn (who might be the second most important person at Marvel Studios, and 90% of MCU fans dont even know who she is).

Tonic24k - 5/7/2022, 1:18 AM
@McMurdo - Not at all, dude. At the end of WandaVision we see the Darkhold starting to manipulate her. That was the whole point of that end credit scene.

@TheHumanSpider2 - ATJ was a great Quicksilver! I really wish they didn't kill him off. I blame Fox. Lol
SauronthePower
SauronthePower - 5/7/2022, 5:34 AM
@mastakilla39 - the pacing issues I initially harped on were a bit more palatable and understandable on the second viewing because I was obviously aware of what was coming and hype (expectations) were gone. I even thought Elfman had a really great moment when Witchie is confronted by suburbanized Wanda and he was droning those low piano chords subtly. Problem to me was that they rushed her heel turn as if WandaVision had never occurred. By rights, Photon should have stopped her in Westview but didn’t because the show established that she was accepting responsibility and exile as penance. Here, she was full-on crazy from Moment 1. I have it solid middle of the road overall. In my Phase 4 rankings, I have it behind every other release save Widow, which I felt was severely underwhelming.

SauronthePower - 5/7/2022, 5:37 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Finn’s batting average has been beyond stellar. She has knocked it out of the park again, and again, and again, and again. Ridloff’s casting might be Finn’s/Feige’s greatest triumph yet
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 5/7/2022, 11:11 AM
@Tonic24k - He was a bad pick, and Evan Peters completely nailed the character a year prior.
Him being killed off was probably because of the deal with Fox ("you keep Quicksilver, we keep Scarlet Witch), and Whedon's "gimmick" of killing a mayor character in all his movies.

Btw, just noticed poor Pietro is not even mentioned in MoM.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Absolutely not! ATJ was a way better pick than Peters. But yes, it was most certainly a Fox deal.

As for the comparison...I like Peters as an actor. But he just looked sooooo goofy.

@DTor91 - Wandavision explicitly showed what the Darkhold does to the wielder, it corrupts them. The show ended with her using it to search for her children. Seems straightforward. She got brainwashed into a fascist cult, experimented on, lost her brother, accidentally blew up a bunch of people at a building, lost her lover, wiped from existence for five years, then had a breakdown and created a pocket universe of her ideal reality. Come on, her mind was broken!

Just saw Marvel's Doctor Strange 2: In The Multiverse of Madness directed by horror master Sam Raimi this is much more of a horror film than the first one one was while also having the same feel as an MCU film, this is the most violent and freaky MCU film and the first horror film within the MCU. I won't spoil much of anything but if you're gonna see this movie I think it is mandatory that you watch the TV show Wandavision on Disney+ to understand the continuation of her journey here, color wise this is a visually more brighter film than the first film while also being more of a horror film there are many nods to many of Sam Raimi's horror films. The only thing I did/didn't like were the cameos which could've set up the future for the MCU which was squandered. If you see this movie recommend seeing this in either 3D (if you love 3D like me) or on either in an IMAX theater or on the biggest screen possible this is a really beautiful visually mind bending film.

@TheWalkingCuban - Well its the marketing's fault, they kinda played you like Deadpool 2 with the X-force or Iron Man 3's Mandarin. But DP2 and IM3 was done better because it was more clever unlike DS2 where it was just all wasted potential. If Marvel recasts these cameos and returning actors then it will be severely disappointing.
