More promo art for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been released, but this looks to be the most revealing batch yet. As you can see below, it's now seemingly been confirmed that we'll see at least two Doctor Strange Variants along with the MCU's Stephen Strange.
The first is Doctor Strange Supreme from What If...? and the second is Defender Strange. That's a character who has been featured heavily in merchandise, and this appears to debunk theories that the former Sorcerer Supreme is getting a new costume and persona. Whether this "Defender" is a friend or foe remains to be seen, but Master Mordo (also featured here) is another suspected Variant.
After Loki and What If...?, Marvel Studios is clearly doubling down on the idea of multiple realities and different versions of the same character. Sam Raimi seemingly plans to take us on an utterly bonkers ride, anyway, and we're expecting to see even more from the sequel during the Super Bowl.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
The movie's cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.
