DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Set For $195+ Million Debut; Likely To Hit $400 Million Globally

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is having a magical opening weekend both domestically and internationally, and when all is said and done, the sequel could debut globally with $400 million!

Deadline reports that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness exceeded expectations on Friday, earning $90 million instead of the projected $85 million (including Thursday previews). As of right now, all signs point to the Marvel Studios sequel grossing between $198.8 million - $200 million domestic.

Disney is being a little more conservative with a $170 million - $185 million opening weekend projection, but the movie is definitely aiming for that highly coveted $200 million mark.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has made $139.3 million internationally through Friday, and is expected to pass the $230 million mark by the end of tomorrow. As a result, Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange sequel looks set to have a global opening weekend of a massive $400 million.

While the movie is one of only a handful of Marvel Studios blockbusters not to receive an A-, A, or A+ CinemaScore, a B+ isn't hampering Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness too much. With 75% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and an 88% Audience Score, it's apparent that people are enjoying this first big screen trip into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse.

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a one of a kind blockbuster experience and a pure, unadulterated Sam Raimi movie that, while not quite the crazy ride through the Multiverse we expected, delivers a fun, horror-tinged trip," we said in our review of the blockbuster this week.

A doctor strange film making 190 million plus on mother's day weekend 😐....

We truly are in a multiverse reality ...

Good movie🔥❤️💪

@AmazingFILMporg - The multiverse is a concept of which we know very little....this shouldn't be possible.

@SonOfAGif -

If this keeps happening these universes will collapse on themselves 😐

SonOfAGif - 5/7/2022, 8:28 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - Universe 1 collapsed the moment Moon Knight was a success.

I agree with some of the criticism of the film but one criticism I can't get over is saying the film feels like a self contained story. These are the same people that say they are tired of connected universe films . Or they say the film didn't have the cameos they expected 😐

They built the film up in their head. they expected a family member to make an appearance 🙄

@AmazingFILMporg - to me it feels like both, and honestly yes it’s more self contained than connected but so are most of these, people just don’t say to accept that the bones and muscles are bigger than the joints and hello, that’s normal!

@AmazingFILMporg - yeah there are some goofy criticisms for this out there. I haven't seen it so I won't comment on the film itself but saying not enough cameos is a pretty weak point. It's about characters and plot, that's the cake and frosting. Cameos are the decorations. Great to have it there, but does nothing to improve the cake.

SonOfAGif - 5/7/2022, 8:25 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - I'm actually one of the few who believe it was a bit too contained only because I feel like Wanda is too big a character to die off so secretly. It's like if Tony Stark died in Spider-Man Homecoming and not Avengers Endgame. I feel like Wanda's finale needed to be so grand the world knew about it. The only universe that knows what happened is the Illuminati verse.

Wanda is not dead. She is in hell 😎
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 5/7/2022, 8:30 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - Which is fine. I'm sure Mephisto will have his way but my point was more so how she's an Avenger who died in a temple and nobody besides Strange and Wong know about it.

Are you happy?😐...

@SonOfAGif - You are assuming she is dead. I personally don't think so. If you don't see the actual body, and sometimes even if you do, I don't think one should make that assumption, especially in a Marvel film.

@AmazingFILMporg - i think ppl expected this film to matter like civil war did to iw and endgame. a film that will build or lead to the next giant crossover film, but instead we jus got a sequel to dr strange that was more self contained.

Deserved!

Loved every minute of it and can't wait to see it again. I hope Raimi continues with Strange or maybe even a Scarlet Witch project.

Well deserved. Hope it hits that billion milestone

I know it was an Avengers movie, but as successful as MOM is it really puts in perspective how insane it was for Endgame to do a billion OW worldwide lmao

@ForceofWakanda -

It will do 800 to a billion💪
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 5/7/2022, 5:58 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - not an unreasonable conclusion, that’s double to 2.5 more than the opening weekend, if it’s a 50/50 split dom and WW then yeah 800’s, and if it’s more worldwide than domestic, even better. If it stops in the 900s or 1-1.09 billion range, it’ll be the first MCU flick to do so. And that ain’t bad
SauronthePower
SauronthePower - 5/8/2022, 1:11 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - the horror factor getting cold feet word-of-mouth, the fundamentalist markets throughout the South, and those dumb-arsed dinosaurs are going to be serious impediments to this little party. Hope it gets it but there are certainly pretty significant obstacles.

£15.00 of that is mine. Really enjoyed the movie,could have visited more earths an should have had more cameos but I loved how violent it was and the horror elements.

@TheNZNatural -

These people are hardcore conservative.

It's about politics for them.

Anything that goes against their beliefs they're against. They are of the belief that traditional media has to be destroyed and conservative media needs to be promoted. That's why they want to start their own movie studios and production companies.

They praise Ben Shapiro's movie company because they want their values presented on screens.
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/7/2022, 5:04 PM
@TheNZNatural - I can see why they call it the M-SHE-U,they're right one way but not when it comes to Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man:No Way Home.

However

Eternals half the male characters are female.
Black Widow dead recast a new Black Widow
Female Taskmaster
Black Panther could be replaced by Shuri in the role
Female Thor
Female Captain America Captain Carter
Ironheart replacing Iron Man
Hawkeye being replaced by Kate Bishop
She-Hulk may replace Hulk
Female Loki
Ms.Marvel show
Echo show
America Chavez introduced
New female hero introduced in Moon Knight

TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 5/7/2022, 5:06 PM
@marvel72 - Pretty much every female character in this movie is stronger than Dr Strange (even the character in the mid-credits scene is hinted at being more powerful than him), of course the Riddler army will say this is part of the M-She-U.
Roodi
Roodi - 5/7/2022, 5:07 PM
@marvel72 - Did you need another 10 years and 20+ films with white male leads still?
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/7/2022, 5:15 PM
@Roodi - why can't we have both?

I want Thor,Iron Man, Captain America,Hulk,Black Panther and so on.

Are the female versions better? No they're not.
