Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will introduce us to Kang the Conqueror, and after meeting He Who Remains in Loki's season one finale, we're hoping to get a better idea of what to expect from the villain.
After all, while the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have teased the Multiverse, we've yet to fully understand how the villain's many Variants will factor into it. However, a new rumour shared by The Cosmic Circus suggests Kang already, secretly, played a role in at least one big MCU development.
According to the site's source, a Kang Variant was the true author of the Darkhold.
We're not sure what that means for the demon Chthon, but it's possible he either never existed, was manipulated by Kang, or the time-traveller was the one who transcribed his original writings from Mount Wundagor's walls.
Why? Well, there are many possibilities (including that being an early attempt to figure out how he could control the Multiverse), but the Scarlet Witch essentially being "framed" for being capable of destroying all reality has, after her battle with Doctor Strange, basically taken her off the table.
That's one less rival for Kang, and with the Darkhold now destroyed across the Multiverse, potentially one less obstacle for him to overcome. Remember, the one being Chthon believed would one day rule all reality is not only believed dead, but the book that gave her access to those powers is no more. That should make Kang's life a lot easier, right?
As the site points out, the drawings in the Darkhhold bear a resemblance to imagery in both Loki and the Doctor Strange sequel, with the recurring theme being rings that may also tie Kang to Kamala Khan's bangles and Shang-Chi's Ten Rings.
We're dealing with a lot of theories here, and hope Marvel Studios will make sense of all this as we get deeper into the Multiverse Saga. If Kang is responsible for writing the Darkhold, however, an upcoming project will surely shed some light on the how and why of his manipulating history and these various artefacts to achieve his goal of conquering all.
