Doctor Strange had a great big-screen debut, ending its theatrical run with more than $675 mln globally, and it was loved by both critics and audiences alike. We still don't have official confirmation from Marvel Studios that a sequel is on the way, but it doesn't stop Cumberbatch from naming the director he'd most like to see in charge of the franchise's future. As you can probably guess, it's Scott Derrickson.
The Sherlock star feels that the director of movies like Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil proved that he's suited for the job and can adapt his style to the conditions of making comic-book flicks: "I mean this was a much harder shoot in many ways than I imagine some of the other origin stories had been. They're all hard, not to detract from the hard work that they put in, but my point is that there was a massively fast turn around. So he was having to edit and approve special effects shots at the same time as setting up these huge sequences live and getting the camera and angles and performances and visuals right on the day".
Cumberbatch also expressed his admiration for Derrickson's unique approach to the supernatural and mind-bending multiverse; "So he was double tasking in a pretty full on way and then he was, for someone who's done stuff to do stuff with the supernatural before but never, as he'd be the first to admit I'm sure, never quite on this scale. He had to do it all with great skill and the results are on the screen. So yeah I think this film speaks to why Scott would be a great choice to direct it again..." - Cumberbatch concluded.
Unsurprisingly, Benedict is not the only one who want to see Derrickson sitting on the director's chair again - however, the big question is, does the he want to return?
