ETERNALS Producer Says We Haven't Seen The Last Of Those Characters While Teasing Their MCU Return

Eternals remains Marvel Studios' only "Rotten" movie, and while it did underperform at the box office, it sounds like that big cliffhanger will one day be resolved. Find more details after the jump...

While not every Marvel Studios movie has been embraced by critics, Eternals remains the MCU's only "Rotten" blockbuster. There was a lot to love about the debut of this team, but some mistakes were definitely made, whether it was the generic villain or the fact it featured way too many characters.

Regardless of whether you loved the movie, loathed it, or fall somewhere in the middle, there's no denying that cliffhanger ending needs to be resolved.

In the closing few moments of Eternals, the Celestial Arishem arrived on Earth, taking those who stopped Tiamut's emergence for judgement (seemingly with the planet's fate on the line). There's also the small matter of a giant marble Celestial sticking out of the Indian Ocean, though no one in the MCU has really made mention of that yet.

Talking to Phase Zero, Eternals and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore was asked outright if fans can expect to see the movie's immortal heroes again.

"I would...I don't want to spoil anything, but we have not seen the last of those characters," he teased, strongly hinting that there are plans for them to return sooner rather than later. Whether that will be in a movie, on Disney+, or even in another character's adventure obviously remains to be seen.

Tepid reviews and the fact Eternals came out right at the end of the pandemic meant it wasn't a major box office hit. As a result, it's hard to say how keen Disney will be to allow Marvel Studios to forge ahead with a big budget sequel, though this is definitely a corner of the MCU we think deserves to be explored.

If nothing else, we're sure Kevin Feige and company won't want to waste Harry Styles after casting him to play Eros, the brother of Thanos...

I would have liked to see Harry Styles' Eros in She-Hulk having to defend himself for some womanizing... that would have been fun.

Also Dane Whitman and Blade... are obviously coming back.

For the rest: Makkari and Druig are welcomed to stay, everyone else take'em or leave'em.

F#ck me, I cannot help but love this movie...

Also, more of Druig and Makari's wholesomeness, please and thank you.

@DrReedRichards - I also really like Eternals, though It's got some issues. It has a feel to it that I liked, and the look in general. Some great performances. And the beach scene at the end is one of my MCU favorites

@ProfessorWhy -

I feel like it'll be appreciated a bit more over time, depending on how the rest of the MCU decides to utilize these characters. I get that it has certain issues -- like I've said before, I agree that it would have worked better as a series -- but the its positives far outweigh those issues.

@DrReedRichards - I really wanted to like this movie, but something was off about for me. Can’t really say if it was pacing or if the story didn’t lend enough time for me to care about the characters, I don’t know… can’t really say.

I did enjoy their impact in regards to ancient human history and I found the reason for their absence during the battle against Thanos satisfying enough.

@ScaryTerry -

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the pacing that threw you off, or the lack of screentime for certain of the hsitoric Eras that the Eternals were shown to be a part of. It's part of why I agree with the argument that a series' greeater runtime would have helped the movie a great deal.

@DrReedRichards - You know, an extended run time would have definitely helped.

I’m inclined to give this another go this week. Like I said said, want to like it.

@DrReedRichards @professorwhy- I like you guys really enjoy this movie. For the same reasons. Missed opportunity not making it a series.

The movie is gorgeous and makes me wonder. Much like Prometheus died. But people didn't like that movie either 😕

@DrReedRichards - I'm there with you...Movies was beautifully picturized. Almost all acted well. This movie had pacing problem at times, They wasted Kro(For me after that forest fight, he should never appeared in final fight. Had a potential in sequel), Gemma Chan's wooden acting towards end... She had confused expression once she gets Ajak powers(Should have casted Jolie for that role, In brief role as Thena she did well)... As people claim exposition was not that awful. I felt making this story a series would have been more successful rather than making it as a movie. They could have gone 6 hr length and split into 5 or 6 episodes...

@Vigor -

I think Prometheus was fairly well received, albeit nothing extraordinary. It was its Covenant sequel that ended being just... bleh.

@MochaKing -

I didn't have as big of a problem with Gemma Chan as I see being mentioned often in regards to her performance here, but at the same time I can see why she's seen as the weakest of the cast. Hayek and Jolie had both stronger performances.

@DrReedRichards - I never had problem watching first time. But watching multiple times, other's being doing really well and her performance was dipping big time. In first 20 mins her acting was solid.. then more I watch it becomes unbearable. Maybe just a thing with me... I personally like her as an actress.

@ProfessorWhy - strongly agree on the look/feel. I think its because she shot so much of it on location at beautiful places around the world. Gave it a huge boost IMO.

@DrReedRichards - would have been soo much better as a series. That movie in 6 parts with a few extra scenes to flesh out the characters would have been one of the best MCU D+ shows.

@DanFlashesShirt -

A six-ep hourly series would have been optimal, IMHO. Each episode switching between present time and a different historical era that the group were a part of behind the scenes.

Guess they will try to show some love to them before making Eternals 2 by injecting them in a bunch of MCU projects in order to build some good faith too.

I know MCU had this clause in their Marvel contract where if you played an MCU hero you coulnd't play, say, in a DC movie, now Joker is a villain so maybe it's fine for Barry Keoghan to play both in a DC and Marvel movie, feels kinda strange, but then again...i think about Fishburne as Perry White and then in Ant-Man and The Wasp, so...

I liked Keoghan in Eternals and i don't feel him as Joker one bit.

@Doomsday8888 - People keep mentioning this clause yet actors, directors, and crews still work for both... there is no clause, it all depends on how scheduling is sorted as to what people are or aren't available for which on it's own is so convoluted and ridiculous in Hollywood that it's quite literally it's own shadow industry within the entertainment industry.

@marvel72 @fogs - I fell asleep in both of them! Black Adam actually kept me awake. Can’t say it’s a great movie, but I enjoyed it enough that it held my attention. I think Dr Strange 2 was the only other CBM that kept me awake in the last year or so. Most of them are so formulaic that I lose interest.

@Shivermetimbers - I could have quite easily fell asleep during Black Widow and Thor:Love And Thunder but for some unknown reason I stayed awake.

Only Doctor Strange And The MultiVerse Of Madness and Spider-Man:No Way Home have kept my attention or my eyes from shutting.

@Vigor - in terms of science, if multiple people are dealing with the same phenomenon based on the same circumstances, then it's a good assumption it's those circumstances that is the cause.
