ETERNALS Star Angelina Jolie Isn't Interested In A Solo THENA Movie Or Series But Hopes To Make MCU Return

Angelina Jolie plays Thena in Eternals, but the actress has now explained why she's more interested in finding a role for the character in other franchises than tackling a solo movie or TV series...

Eternals introduces us to a lot of new characters, many of whom have the potential to hold their own in movies or TV shows outside of that team-up franchise. It's pretty obvious where Dane Whitman is heading, for example, but what about the immortal superheroes themselves?

The movie definitely sets the stage for what comes next, but one Eternals star who isn't interested in taking their character into a solo project is Angelina Jolie.

During a recent interview with CinePOP, the actress explained why she wants to keep Thena with her fellow heroes. "I loved being part of the family, so I have no desire to separate from the family," Jolie confirmed. "But I would be happy to play her again and explore even more deeply the struggles that she has. I think it’s fun thinking of where they’ve been over the years."

"We’ve got thousands of years worth of material. We can take her anywhere. I think that’s fun and I like the idea that we can pop up somewhere, maybe in other Marvel movies."

The potential of the Eternals moving forward is massive, and there's a good chance we will start seeing these characters show up both in other franchises and whenever Marvel Studios decides to further explore the MCU's history. After all, we know they've crossed paths with Thor and Odin, and with rumours about Hercules still swirling, who better for him to team up with than someone like Thena?

Eternals is now playing in theaters worldwide.

I could see her direct the sequel to be honest. I thought Unbroken was a great watch and can see the Eternals sequel be somewhat similar to that

More or less the definition of a true team player. Its the "we" not the "me"...

She was incredible in the film and Thena's role was surprising!

I'm utterly in love with Eternals, but one of the things about the movie that might cause problems later is this:

Thena is seen as the inspiration for Athena, right? So there was no real Athena.
Same for the other 9 Eternals.
So how does this work? Because in Thor: Love and Thunder we get the father of Athena in Russel Crowe's Zeus.

In the comics Zuras is the inspiration for Zeus and is Thena's father.
The Eternals were the inspiration for all of Earth's fictional pantheons. But these pantheons gain power from our belief in them and exist in pocket dimensions, such as Asgard and Olympus.
All non-Eternal pantheons are merely manifestations of human beliefs.
So basically if everyone on Earth stops believing in the existence of Asgard, Thor will cease to exist. But the Eternal that inspired Thor will not.
(I have no idea which Eternal inspired Thor. I think we have yet to meet him/her in the comics).

But in the MCU, the Asgardians seem to exist in the same physical universe as everyone else. They are essentially aliens. So I assume this is also true for Zeus and the Olympians.
Now, there was no Zuras in Eternals, so Zuras did not inspire Zeus. So did the real Zeus inspire the real Zeus?

The one way I can see it making sense is if Zeus and all of the Olympians visited Earth in the same way that Thor and the Asgardians did.
All of them except for Athena, Hephaestus, Circe, Hermes and possibly even Hercules (Gilgamesh was the inspiration for Hercules in the comics, but since they never outright stated that in the film, I think we're fine to have the Marvel version of Hercules show up at some point).

We would just have to assume that Thena is the adopted daughter of Zeus rather than a biological daughter.

The only real problem is Eros.
How did Eros inspire the legends of Eros and Cupid if he was not one of the 10 Eternals on Earth?!

@GwenLantern - The Eternals mentioned they were from the planet Olympiad or something like that.. turned out of course they weren’t but for them to believe it, there must be a planet Olympiad in the MCU for them to believe they were from it, especially with all of the technology at their fingertips, I’m sure they had Google to research lol.. anyway, it could be as easy as they were created but other “Olympians” were not, and as they visited humans created the mythology and glued them together. “Look Zeus is old, Thena is younger, they’re both powerful beings, she has to be his daughter”. Idk just my guess, in a movie it takes less than that to explain a twist.

@MarioT1000 - That could be why the made Olympia a planet instead of a mountain (like it was in the comics), because it's based on a real planet where Russel Crowe's Zeus and all the Olympians are from. I like it.

I just figured they did it because if we had a colony of superhumans living on a mountain, satellites would have picked it up by now, but what you're saying makes more sense.

@GwenLantern - this is addressed in the comics. Originally eternals wasn't in the marvel universe. But when it got folded in its explained that Gods like Zeus allowed the eternals to act as the physical representations of them for people on earth.

That's refreshing to hear, especially when every other supporting hero in a superhero movie or otherwise wants their own spinoff.

Still seems crazy to me that they got Jolie for a supporting role and she actually signed on for it

OT: Seems like Black Panther 2 may have another hitch. There's a new rule that's been implemented that non-immigrant, non-citizens flying to the U.S. must be vaccinated against Covid-19 and provide proof of their vaccination before boarding a plane to the U.S.
Leticia Wright is in the U.K. and a vocal anti-vaxxer. So, BP 2 may have to halt production again or pick up and go to the U.K. to film her scenes.

Don't worry no one's asking for a solo movie
