Eternals feels like a considerably more secretive movie than Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and with a little less than two months to go before it's released, we've already seen the final trailer!
Something tells us Marvel Studios has some major surprises planned, with Kit Harington's Dane Whitman one of the biggest mysteries right now. Better known as Black Knight in the comic books, it's hard to escape the feeling that there are big plans in place for the hero; talking to Total Film, the Game of Thrones alum teased exactly that.
Describing Dane as "the human character of the story," Harington adds: "He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the Natural History Museum in London. But he’s not an Eternal - that’s the main takeaway!"
"I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not," he noted when pushed for details on his possible MCU future. "I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!"
In the same interview, Harington addressed reports that Dane is part of a love triangle with Gemma Chan's Sersi and Richard Madden's Ikaris. "I think there’s been a few things said about that in the press," the actor explained. "I wouldn’t say that a lot of it is accurate. But he has a connection with Sersi, as does Richard’s character."
In the comic books, Black Knight ends up joining The Avengers alongside Sersi, but it's possible Marvel Studios plans to take the slow burn approach to both that and the relationship between these characters. However, it would definitely make sense for him to suit up for the first time in this upcoming Phase 4 movie.
We'll have to wait and see, but Eternals arrives in theaters on November 5, later this year!
