ETERNALS Writer Says The "Door Is Very Much Open" For A Potential Sequel To Introduce Galactus

Though an Eternals sequel has yet to be officially greenlit, writers Ryan and Kaz Firpo seem to be fully on board with the idea of Galactus making his MCU debut in a potential follow-up...

Following the universe-altering events of Marvel's Eternals, there's been a lot of speculation that a potential sequel could introduce a character comic book fans have been hoping to see make his MCU debut for a long time: The world-devouring Galactus.

A second film has yet to be officially announced, but it certainly sounds like writers Ryan and Kaz Firpo would be more than open to the idea should they be given the opportunity to return to work on a follow-up.

Spoilers for the ending of Eternals follow.

At the conclusion of the movie, Sersi harnesses the power of the group's uni-mind to turn emerging Celestial Tiamut to stone, killing him in the process. This saved the people of Earth, but prevented countless lives being brought into existence in other parts of the universe. The closing scenes revealed that the Celestials were not best pleased with the surviving Eternals (to say the least), and Arishem arrived to whisk Sersi, Phastos and Kingo away to face judgement.

Galactus may not be a Celestial, but the ancient, god-like eater of worlds could still very easily factor into a sequel.

“Galactus is an amazing, amazing character, and villain," Kaz told The Direct when asked about the possibility of exploring the character. "We are, you know, obviously setting the stage for intergalactic, cosmic, megalith confrontations, especially when you kill a space god—and then the space god comes and kidnaps you and plans to judge Earth, I think the door is very much open for world-eating villains.”

Ryan then weighed-in, outlining some ways Galactus might be brought into the continuing story.

"There’s definitely conversations about these post-credits sequences, about who we’re introducing, where we’re going… Galactus is one of those iconic figures of the Marvel Universe that we’re excited to see. But sometimes I think you leave yourself open, you leave these doors open, and who knows what’s happening in number two. Maybe you’re too busy saving a Celestial from Galactus that you end up incurring his [wrath]… anything’s possible.”

What do you guys think? Would Eternals 2 be the right place to debut Galactus, or do you think Marvel Studios should wait for the Fantastic Four movie? Drop us a comment down below.

Save Galactus for The Fantastic Four.

@marvel72 - You can introduce Galactus in Eternals 2 and set up the post-credit scene with Silver Surfer to prepare for Fantastic 4.

@marvel72 - save him for a big team up.

Like really what kind of logic kept others out of the original story. Galactus is an event level threat

@dracula - You could always do a Silver Surfer story where he warns The Fantastic Four about the arrival of Galactus.

Galactus turns up leads into event movie.

@marvel72 - It matters not. The important thing is we will never have to worry about this again...except on FX.

@marvel72 - Galatus in Eternals is like eating a 4 for 4 on the way to a 5* restaurant.

I'd love it if they do the Silver Surfer film first with Galactus before they go further with the Fantastic Four. It would be a nice build up.

Galactus should only be in post credits till fantastic four and end F4 on a cliff hanger of Galactus coming to earth.. then onto The New Avengers movie with Galactus as the big bad.

Also if they do another Eternals make a Disney + series out of it instead of a movie. That way we can get a good story that isn’t rushed or a majorly long movie.

@grif - That's exactly what it is. Also, if they plan on bringing on Galactus anytime soon, Silver Surfer needs to be in the MCU ASAP. One of the greatest comic characters of all time.

@grif - sounds more like they don't want to give anything away.. the typical status quo for Marvel future movies.

@nibs - so being rumored to be in final talks is actually marvel marketing to make box office sales increase? those guys are really savvy when they pass rumors around.

@GwenLantern - exactly, they brought back the 2012 version after killing the prime timeline version... its not like they can't bring yet another one back from further in the past or from another universe.

It 100 percent is going to happen through Eternals, perfect way to explain it. Perhaps he's the main Celestial who is pissed because they stopped the birth of a new one, so in his anger.. he sends a herald to planet earth..
