ANT MAN AND THE WASP
Regardless of the two being FOUNDING members of the Avengers, Henry Pym and Janet Van Dyne are unfortunately missing from next summer's blockbuster "The Avengers." This is a sad reality but one that I must live with as they are two of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe.
I find placing them within the confines of the MCU to be an easy task which could be simply done. Firstly, Henry Pym could have been introduced in the first film as a scientist who is employed in SHIELD as a scientist/engineer. He doesn't need to be at the forefront of anything but just seen as either the go-to man in regards to his fields of study. Of course, he could be working at SHIELD doing research in the matters of biology, nanotechnology or artificial intelligence in robotics. There could easily be a seen showing Dr. Pym helping a group of doctors perform tests on the comatose Captain America, or analyzing the Hulk's/Bruce Banner's DNA. Janet could have been introduced as the daughter of the President of a huge corporation that rivals Stark Industries; someone who previously dated Tony Stark, leaving a bitter relationship between the two which also allows for some back and forth bickering and banter between the two. She could have been introduced simply in a scene where Stark is attending some sort of social event and she, knowing that Stark has been signed into the Avengers Initiative, comments that her boyfriend is currently working at SHIELD. The two of them could have been set up in the first film, without displaying their abilities and without focusing too much on them. Audiences would have looked at them as other characters in the film, known that they are "possibly" important, and done their research.
Showing them in the first film, would have allowed for Easter Eggs to be included such as Pym having schematics, and designs for an Ultron AI or Fury having files on Janet's abilities. In a second film, Stark could, for example, come to Pym and tell him that he is thinking about retiring his Iron Man suit but he doesn't want anyone to know, and therefore Pym and him work together to create Ultron, who is designed to take the place of Tony Stark (it's a long shot but it would work I believe.) Ultron could, at some point, turn on his creators, causing Pym, feeling responsible, to join up with the Avengers to help stop him and Janet follows suit.
More than likely not going to happen but a man can dream.
THE BLACK PANTHER
I both want and do not want the Black Panther to be a part of the MCU. I believe that his story and introduction into the Avengers is so played out and wouldn't translate well to the big screen or to mainstream audiences. It is essentially the same story in every incarnation. Nonetheless, the Black Panther could be introduced into the MCU very easily while avoiding his, in what I feel, lame background story. In a Black Panther film, T'Challa should rise up and take the mantle of the Black Panther after the death of his father at the hands of Klaw. The Black Panther doesn't have time to even go after his father's killer when a rival nation rises up against Wakanda in an attempt to gain their vibranium. The Black Panther must put his vengeance issues aside in an attempt to save his country from those that threaten to bring it down. SHIELD is obviously aware of the countries existence from the start and after seeing the T'Challa is quite the skilled fighter invite him to join the Avengers in preparations for the "next" threat to Earth. T'Challa refuses their offer until SHIELD says that they will give him the location and resources to kill Klaw in exchange for his service in the Avengers. T'Challa agrees which has the potential to create lots of tension between him and the other Avengers and SHIELD since he doesn't really want to be there and wants to get their mission over with so that he can go after Klaw (he can finally go after Klaw in a sequel to his own live action film.)
THE VISION
In any potential Avengers sequel where Ant Man, the Wasp, and Ultron have already been established, I think it would be good for Stark and Pym to have a rather friendly relationship as fellow scientist and inventors. Pym can look up to Stark in away for his intellect whereas Stark believes Pym to be smarter than him but just lacks the confidence to put all of his plans into action. Moving on, due to Pym and Stark's relationship, it could be possible that Pym can stumble across the original Human Torch android system which Stark could have kept around as a memento. Pym could retrieve it and bring it back to SHIELD but Ultron, who the Avengers thought was long gone, steals it, recognizing its potential, and transforms it into the Vision. I envision the Vision (pardon the pun), to start out as an operative for Ultron who attempts to systematically take out the Avengers until Pym, using untested technology, uploads his brain waves into the Vision in an attempt to take over and control the android. Once the feat is successful, the Vision could become an ally against Ultron alongside the Avengers.
TRIATHLON
Triathlon is character I find pretty cool for some reason. I think that he could be introduced into the MCU, not as a member of the Avengers but as an agent of SHIELD, who is a scientist who developed technology to break illusions, detect foreign surveillance and things of that nature. He could possibly the Director of Security of SHIELD who is called in on a mission with, lets say, the Black Widow and Hawkeye. I know he is far from peoples minds when it comes to the MCU but I think it would be rather interesting and fun for the fans.
MS. MARVEL
My theory for how Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel, should be introduced into the MCU is a rather different take on the character. I imagine her being a former officer in the United States Air Force (like the comics) who is promoted into the ranks of SHIELD where she joins them in a mission involving contact with an alien species (they do not need to name the species as I would find that lame). A fight erupts between the encounter and explosions essentially like in the comic which give Danvers her abilities. This species of alien could be using the powers of the Cosmic Cube, Infinity Gauntlet, what have you, it's not important as long as it is something that connects to the wider MCU. Danvers could then suffer a sort of break down, unable to control the abilities, and she is then taken into SHIELD custody to be studied, and, more appropriately, controlled to prevent harm to civilians. Although she is in a state of isolation from the world in a way, Danvers accepts her fate and deems herself a threat to the world at large. To help with her new life, she can turn to alcohol which is provided by SHIELD. SHIELD could infuse the alcohol with neurological suppressants that keep her in a state of both mild intoxication and passivity that allow them to keep her control. When the Avengers of course need to save the day, Danvers can be called upon to assist. Her portrayal can be a good fold to both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. She can a drink with Stark and they can contemplate the realities of their worlds together, her revealing she knows about the suppressants and with Banner she can relate to him about the fears that SHIELD has in regards to their uncontrollable states. I know this is a rather drastic change in her portrayal in the comics but I think it could potentially be one that is enjoyable on the screen and quite complex.
---End---
I have other ideas for introducing characters that I can post in the future if anyone wants to hear more. Thanks to all of those who have read and I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments section, so please feel free to let me know what you think. Let the discussion begin!
