FAN ART: A progress report on my entry to the Avengers contest

Take a look, feed back is welcome

I'm no artist by a long shot, but this sounded too fun to pass up.
It's not complete yet but I figured I'd post what I have so far and get some feed back. So here goes:

Photobucket

With everyone trying to go for what the chacters might look like in the movie I decided I'd take my influence from Mike Mignola's Hellboy II poster where he instead show cased the style of art that the movie was adapting. In that vain I decided I wanted to draw the Avengers they first appeared in the comics. Missing from this picture are Iron man and the Hulk, both of whom I plan to add. I'm thinking about putting Ironman on the right of Thor and the Hulk on the left...but we'll see.

I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Edit: Second go.
I played around with the placement a bit but decided to keep what I had. The lettering is still not fixed, that's up next

And with the lettering fixed:

I love it! Just a suggestion though, regarding the character placement (although you may not want to because it would require you to re-draw this), but I would lower Thor just slightly, and shift him to the left (my/your left, not theirs) and put Iron Man beside Thor, with Thor's cape flowing behind Iron Man. You could add in Hulk above Thor (not "above" as in "Hulk jumping above Thor", but like Hulk's head is above Thor, and his body is sort of the background, but he is standing level with Cap.

Very nice!!! Contrast has a good idea about where to situate the characters. And i'd use a ruler for the logos ;)

But great work, bud!!!

Yeah, the lettering is certainly the aspect that I'm least pleased with. I'm thinking about finding the original Avenger's letter head online and just printing it, cutting it out and physically pasting it onto my picture.

Thanks for the advice, I might try playing around with the positioning today and see how it goes.

What do you guys think about color? Should I keep it black in white or not?

@Guardian, It depends on how good you are at colouring. I dont have good enough skills with colours so I'm keeping mine Black and White! I think yours works well black and white.

Great job, man. You've got a good, classic style. You wouldn't be out of place in the '60s.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the way Thor looks, I like my rendition of the hulk as well...but the depth is off. I'm terrible at that.

@thwhtGuardian--Looks great! I actually like the way this looks more than my original suggestion...

I did try it your way earlier today, but I was dissatisfied with the way Thor's feet looked, so I decided to keep them hidden behind Captain America.
