My X-Men: First Class Casting

My X-Men: First Class Casting

Everyone out there has heard by now there is an X-Men: First Class in the works but who should be in it?

When the team started, they were fairly young so when I put this together, I knew for sure it had to be actors that either are young or look like they are. Plus I actually matched it up according to height to see who is roughly the same heights as their fictional personas would be (according to the Marvel U) and here's what I came up with.

For Scott Summers/Cyclops, I wanted someone with definite height so I went with Jared Padelecki. He has the height and I think he has the chops to be a team leader.

Next up is Jean Grey/Marvel Girl. I thought about Isla Fisher but she is just too short. If she was just a few inches taller she would be perfect. Instead, I went with Summer Glau because for some reason I like her as an actress. Plus, I think she is pretty hot. Dye her hair red and I think she can pull it off.

Now to Henry McCoy/Beast. At first I wanted a younger actor but ultimately, I decided to go with an older one. The reason behing this is because I have always thought of McCoy of the older one of the bunch. I guess that has a lot to do with his intelligence (plus before the blue fur, he was relatively hairy) so I went with Dominic Purcell (again). If he can pull off the intelligent aspect of Beast, I think he would make a perfect choice. I'm not even a big Purcell fan but he just seems to fit as either a comic book baddie or a bulky hero.

Now for Warren Worthington III/Angel. I had a hard time deciding who to use for the winged wonder but ultimately I chose Taylor Kitsch. I think he can portray the pretty boy mutant very well (provided he can make Gambit work).

Lastly is Bobby Drake/Iceman. For this character I went with Joseph Gordon-Levitt because I think he's a talented actor and he still looks very young for his age. Plus I think he could easily play the prankster of the bunch.

That's it for my picks. I feel that this would be a great team for Xavier's first students and I know I will definitely get flak for some of my picks but that's the point of these articles right? Please feel free to criticize and poke fun...

I like your pics..except for Padelacki..check out Friday The 13th, Jasons machetti out acts him. And Kitsch is Gambit dude! I know your rebooting for this article but i wouldnt cast an actor that was already a different member of the team..but thats just me. The rest are cool, especially Purcell as Beast.

Taylor is already Gambit. Your Iceman cast is great! The rest I have to disagree with, especially Purcell. What about a casting for what it will actually be. They aren't rebooting which nix Iceman and Angel in an origin story. If it is a prequel route they're taking, then according to the continuity they've already created, Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Beast are the only characters to be introduced as original X-Men, or as Xavier states in X1, "among my first students" in reference to Cyke, Jean, and Storm. This leaves it open for the films to introduce more characters as original X-Men for their continuity.
What if the "First Class" is referring to the first graduating class since the events of X3. That would mean Angel, Iceman, Colossus, Shadowcat, Rogue(if her powers come back) with starring roles for Storm and Wolverine still.

All that said, First Class is part of Fox's relaunching of the X-Men franchise, which is obviously starting with Wolverine, NOT a rebooting.

Wow. Brutal. Myth you are probably right which makes you wonder how much they are going to screw up the X-Men franchise? If they were smart, they should start from scratch and do it right. And if we are going that route, I agree with you regarding Kitsch. But I think Kitsch is supposed to be Gambit in Logan's past when he was younger right? If they make an X-Men movie in a more present time, they probably won't use Kitsch then because he will be too young. They will have to ditch him and use someone else which would free him up for my fake X-Men: First class casting right? And I stand by Paledecki for Cyclops. Who do you suggest for the role of Beast?

Dude, every single TIT(including the so called ones with perfect niple placement) in Friday the 13th outacted Padalecky AND Jason's machetti... which also outacted Jared (not saying much for him). I think the Subway Jared can outact Padalecky any day of the week for that matter. I mean his performance was believeble which actually succeeded in making us believe that he did loose weight eating nothing but Subway. Now that's something isn't it? Padalecky was just totally wrong for that role. Suuuure, cast a 7 foot 10 actor to "act afraid" of a 6 foot 2 mask waring machetti swinging camp side murderer... Of course i am exagerating but you do get the drift.

But since any guy can play a douche/boy-Scott that shoots beams out of his eyes while constantly being in "boner" state around Jean, Padalecky could probably land that role.

I actually like Cyclops. He is a really cool character in my book and he always seems to get crapped on. I think he's developed more as a character since Jean died (wonder when she'll be back). He might just be able to shoot beams out of his eyes but he makes a good team leader and he can scrap with the rest of them. Plus he was married to Jean Grey, he's dating Emma Frost and even Psylocke had a thing for him. The dude is a pimp.

I think he looks like a younger version of Cyclops.

joshw24- I own all seasons on DVD since it's one of my very favorite shows ever. And all it showed me is just how brilliant Jensen Ackles is, not Jared. There is nothing that Jared has ever done that would make me think of him as "brilliant". But to each's own :)

fivebees- Scott became a pimp after his disapearence at the hands of Apocalypse but before that he sucked ass. Unfortunitally, the concept of the "x-team" needed him as a boyscout just like Raphael needs Leo even though he hates having him around in TMNT. And that version of him is what will forever be shown outside the comic book world. His "douche side" LOL :P

some really food choices here. jerad would be a great cyke. but i think someone else for angel may be needed. i just don't see kirsch playing two different x-roles. (so far it looks like he'll de justice to gambit in the wolvie movie) personally i think you need someone pretty boy, almost surferish. you know, the guy you hated in high school. perhaps justin hartly
