What X-Men: First Class should be!

A lot of people know my views on First Class. What you guys dont know is how I would have done the film.

Ok. It's time for me to quit bitching. First Class is gonna get released no matter how much I say it should not be. I can't stop it. I do have ideas though on how a proper prequel should have been done.

Lets get one thing out of the way. The 1960's. Why? Why does the film need to be set then. A film with Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Beast could have been accomplished as aprequel quite easily if it were set in the mid 70's or 80's. Sure we ld still have the issue of not having Ice man and Angel in there because they were already too young when they were introduced in the franchise. But still you would get 3 primary REAL First Class team mates.

Another problem I have with the film being a period piece is that it seems like other than being able to show Magneto and Professor X as young men, it seems like simply a style choice. And frankly the reasons that have given for this choice are crap. So what if the comic was created in that era. So were Spider-Man, the Hulk, Iron man, and a whole host of others. When it came time to turn those characters in to movies, the directors wisely chose to set the films inmodern times therefore making them relevant. And good comic book characters should be relevant because they and their stories are timeless. Also saying that the comic was created back then, really means very little to me becuse the comic that was created back then had a different cast. I'm really not saying all those this just to bitch about it. I think that seeing the original X-Men become who they are today is a far more compelling idea than just throwing some random different characters on the screen and having them be the original X-Men.

Also While I'm on here, I'll mention someone else who could use some fixing too. I did not expect to mention him, But Wolverine needs some big screen redemption. The way to do this would be to partially retcon X-Men Origins: Wolverine. How? Well thats easy. In the comics Wolverine was taken against his will to be a participant in the Weapon X program. In additionto memory issues he was already experiencing, the folks at Weapon X erased most of his memories and implanted false ones in his mind. Knowing this, I don't think it would be a stretch to have X-Men Origins: Wolverine be one of his false memories and have him discover his true origin in the next film. In that way, we would get to see a far bloodier origin and having the older film as a false memory would fit the character so well.

Of course, another option all together would be if Marvel aquired the franchise as a reboot. They could then build up the realtionship of Xavier and Magneto, the original X-Men, Wolverine and the eventually the Uncanny team and then bring them all together justlike how they are doing with the characters in The Avengers.

I'm not sure about rebooting origins? Making a multi-million dollar 'it's all a dream/memory' movie is a bit of a waste. It wasn't done well but it worked ok for me to leave that story where it is. As for this being the 'first class' there is time for various sequels to establish Jean and Cyclops with Beast etc. The continuity is already screwed so I'm happy for First Class to just be the springboard for Erik and Charles' 'break up'. With continuity how it is there wasn't any other way for Vaughn and Goldman to go.

Great editorial non the less

While I agree with most of these comments, there is one inaccuracy. The film IS set in the 70's, not the 60's. Look at the clothing...

I saw this in the editorial section, and I wrote this big long comment then I posted it and it the website said there was an error. So I went back to the editorials section, and this write-up was no longer there. I assumed it was deleted. Now I have discovered this in the news section (which I visit once in a blue moon) where this does not belong. What can I say, this has been a interesting day.
Anyways I was basically going to say that this movie was focused on the relationship between young Magneto and a young Proffesor X, and this movie focuses on the forming of their strong views on how mutants should cooperate with normal humans. I also was going to mention that a whole mnovie that is dedicated to retconning X-men origins Wolverine would look like a poor excuse. Plus the new Wolverine movie is focused on him in Japan after he goes through Weapon X.

@TripFX21 If this movie isn't set in the 60's, then why is JFK the president? He was shown in the trailer after all.

i always thought that the movie was set in the 60's not because thats when the comic was first made, but because of the historical signifigance of that time period. x-men is essentially about prejudice, so i feel that setting it in the time of the civil rights reform is pure genius. In an interview, Fassbender compared xavier and magneto to martin luther king jr and malcolm x, which imo is also pure genius

yes, you could make the movie center around the original characters, but are they really that important? maybe its just me, but i dont think those characters are that interesting. we've had 3 movies about them already, dont start beating a dead horse. the relationship between xavier and magneto would be the most important for me, and it looks like they may have nailed it in this movie.

as for rebooting wolverine with false memory explanation, this is a movie. not a soap opera. if they do that i would be pissed as a movie goer

@TripFX21: The film is set during the '60s if you were JFK is president during this movie, and the film revolves around the Cuban Missile Crisis. Also, apparently the lead characters of the film see both Malcolm X and Martin Luthor King on TV. All that happens in the '60s.
