While many people either love or hate the franchise (both in regards to the books and movies) there's no denying that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was a great movie. But was it really good enough to be considered for a "Best Picture" nod at the Oscars? Well, Warner Bros. certainly seems to think so as they've release a promotional "For Your Consideration" video as well as a list of the categories they believe the movie should receive nominations in. Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint up for "Best Actor"? Yeah, I don't see that happening somehow...

@JoshWilding I thought it was normal for studios to promote their BIG movies for an Oscar?

@Xenix I agree, it'll get a nod for Visual Effects.
But I'm sure it'll have STIFF COMPETITION WITH 'GREEN LANTERN :P

I still need to see this. Time to call my Muggle pals to borrow their copy soon.

i think it deserves some nominations. however, i think it would be awesome if Alan Rickman took best supporting actor (granted i don't know the other nominees). i thought his performance was outstanding, and he really brought intensity to the franchise. his portrayal was perfect. everything else, i'd prefer for movies like thor, CATFA, or x-men first class to win. i think Michael Fassbender should win best actor, i LOVED his performance in First Class, and i hope that movie gets nominated in other categories. best visual effects to thor, maybe best editing or best score for CA?

not best picture material though or best actor. i want to make that clear. i also hope it doesn't win in more than one category.

It deserves to win 'Best Lord of the Rings' rip-off!

I'd rather watch 'Time Bandits'.

@Chancho
If Fassbender gets nominated, it will be for "Shame" not First Class. Its only 5 noms for acting remember and im sure they list will be full of incredible performances. Magneto would have been better in his own film not in half a xmen kids club movie.

To be honest of all the CMBs this year visual effects is the only catergory they stand a chance in. Editing has been seen as a hint to what wins best picture aparently and i cant remember anything that interesting about the editing in any of this years CBM's.

Best picture and best director nomination (not wins) for nolan and TDKR next year obviously.

Mad I didn't get to see this. Doubt it will win best picture tho. You know it'll be something that a total of 30 people have seen and claim it's so great and "intellectual" which means BORING AS HELL.

Have you seen 'Green Lantern's GCI?
Not good... nope, not good at all...

best pic. no, best directer. no, best adapted screen play. maybe, the rest. i would say maybe, except for best visual effects. that one i would probly go to transformers 3.

@JDUKE25
Id much rather watch those films than 75% of the CBMS that come out, even as someone on a CBM site.

Rather be "bored" than watch the cinematic version of fast-food where the excitement is no better than a sugar rush from a milkshake.

But I get what you mean. I guess thats why they made in 10 nominees so movies like Up!, Avatar and Inglorious Basterds could get a look in/the general movie going public would be interested in the show because the movies they saw are in the running.

HP will get a best pic nom, though i hope/doubt it wont win in the same way LOTR did.

1978 'Star Wars- A New Hope' lost to 'Anne Hall'(whatever that is).
1981 'Star Wars-The Empire Strikes Back' lost to 'Ordinary People'(whatever that is)
On and on it goes.
Crap movies usually win- movies that no one really cares about ...or knows about, which are forgotten.
Yet massive classics like SW don't win.
The Academy members who vote are elitist snobs; they rarely get it right. Not saying HP deserves to win, but if it did it wouldn't have a chance!

I don't buy into predicting Oscar nominations before they are released, but if I had to nominate 10 movies today they would be (not in any best to last order or anything)

Moneyball
50/50
Harry Potter
Midnight in Paris
Drive
Warrior
The Help
The Tree of Life
The Ides of March
Bridesmaids

@jlabatman0511 In the same post you say you have only seen bits and pieces of some of the movies, and then go on to say it doesn't deserve an Oscar.. Honestly, how the [frick] would you know? You haven't seen them.. some people -sigh-

Rickman for Best Supporting Actor is the one nomination I could definitely see. His portrayal of Snape in DH2 was amazing. Best Picture will either go to a crappy arthouse film that nobody saw like Tree of Life or Spielberg's latest Oscar-bait, The War Horse.

This will probably end up getting nominated. It was the most successful film this year at the box office and has a 96% on RottenTomatoes. I see it getting nominated for best pitcure, director, cinematography, editing, visual effects, and supporting actor for Alan Rickman. I predict the list will look something like this...
Deathly Hallows Part II
50/50
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The Tree of Life
War Horse
Drive
The Help
Warrior
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball

Even though I'd love Rise of the Planet of the Apes to be up there, I don't see that happening :(
