Peter Jackson Talks About His Cameo In THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Fans of Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy will be well aware of the fact that the director cameos in each of the three films. But what about The Hobbit: AUJ, were you able to spot Jackson in glorious 48fps?

Reportedly, Jackson cameos as one of the dwarves fleeing from Smaug early on in the film. "I didn't have a great deal of choice," he explains. "There weren't any human characters in this film, and there weren't any hobbit roles I could play... and I'm not an elf."

Peter Jackson is a great film director & a great storytellr. The Hobbit was amazing! Besides The Avengers & Skyfall, The Hobbit is one of the best films of 2012.

I've seen this 3 times now and still couldn't spot his cameo. They were much more obvious in the LOTR movies.

I just fear that the Hobbit doesn't have enough story to span 3 movies.

So this could be good or bad..

Good- extended and amazing war/battle/fight scenes.

Bad- long dragging filler.

Reading the book right now, i'm past the Gollum part, noticed the changes but in my opinion it was better that way, more fun and gave Thorin more depth.
It's at 1/3 of the book so i think between battles and all it'll fit easily in the 3 movies.

@Alternate: Imax. Best experience you'll ever have. - - I agree that there's not enough material to make the Hobbit into three parts, but then again that just makes me more intrigued to see what Jackson is gonna do

I liked the movie. My only complaint is that there where moments that felt too long for their purpose, which I believe is how they are stretching a relatively small book into three movies. Either way, I'll watch them all. The scenery is enough for me heh.

I like the fact they have stretched it out tbh, everything they are doing, is what Tolkein wrote in the Apendix of the Lord of the Rings and I find it awesome they are taking it and running with it.

they didn't change a lot of major things from the book, they just took parts from the "Durin's folk" part of the appendices and put it in this movie.. it worked imho, it made the dwarves motivation feel more real, and gave depth to thorin.. i always thought that the dwarves story from the appendices could have been made into a movie in itself.. movie was great!

and plotholes? there were plotholes? i didn't see any.. just changes from the book.. like azog being alive, when he really was killed in that battle by nain.. and gandalf not being the one going into dol guldor, thats where he got the key from thorin's father..

@imadick: How is saying a film has plot holes "a crutch for idiots with a tiny attention span"? A plot hole has nothing to do with how short an attention span is. It's something that contradicts what has been established as "logic" or as a "fact" within the film, or a piece of information that's important to the film being left out by the filmmaker. None of these leads to the conclusion that someone has "a tiny attention span".

Saying that a movie is "long and mostly boring" however, could constitute believing someone has a short attention span

I agree. 48fps looks amazing. Blew my mind. I have not seen the 24fps, and I refuse to. I can't wait to see it again in 48. I will see it no other way.

My hope is that Avengers 2 will also be in 48fps.

I was distracted by the 48 FPS at first, but I"d say after about 20 minutes or so, it didn't bother me. I'm also kind of scratcing my head over these "plot holes". People keep mentioning they exist, but don't point them out. I saw none. If I had any gripes, it's that there were a couple scenes where I was like "Oh this scene would be something they make you do in the video game for this movie." Two cases in point: 1) surviving the rock giants, 2) making sure everyone gets off that swinging piece of bridge before it falls. But tha ain't Jackson's doin', it's my own brain. I was still thoroughly entertained.
