Could Sucker Punch follow Justice League as the next Zack Snyder movie to get the "Snyder Cut" treatment? The director has previously admitted that he was forced to “radically” reimagine the 2011 film in order to make it “more commercial”, and star Jamie Chung has now confirmed that a lot of footage was left on the cutting room floor.
While speaking to THR about her role in Showtime's upcoming Dexter revival, Chung revealed that her character, Amber, originally had an expanded role, while confirming that a more adult-orientated version was planned before Snyder made those cuts.
"[The theatrical cut] is PG-13, but it feels like such an R-rated movie. And I think that’s one of the reasons why they altered the story. It’s been so long, but there would’ve been a lot more detail. Each scene would’ve been extended by 10 minutes. (Laughs.) We shot the hell out of that movie, and it was so fun. My character was the pilot, but I do know that the fighting sequences were much longer. Gosh, it felt like we trained so long for them. That whole experience in itself was six months, so there’s got to be more out there."
Sucker Punch was pretty much lambasted by critics upon its release and failed to make much of an impact at the box office, but the movie has gained something of a cult following over the years, with many regarding it as a misunderstood gem.
We can't imagine Warner Bros. giving Snyder the go-ahead to work on another director's cut after HBO Max's Justice League stirred up the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse hornet's nest, but if the demand is there, an extended Blu-ray release is certainly a possibility.
