THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS First Red Band Trailer Promises Plenty Of Miscreant Muppet Mayhem

"No Sesame. All Street." The first trailer and a poster for The Happytime Murders starring Melissa McCarthy are now online, & we guarantee you'll never look at The Muppets the same way again! Check it out.

STX has debuted the first trailer for The Happytime Murders, and it's pretty damn bonkers.

The movie is set in a world where puppets and humans co-exist, as a tough detective (Melissa McCarthy) and her puppet partner team up in an attempt to discover who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show.

There are some very funny - and very NSFW - bits in the trailer, but if you have an affinity for the wholesome, family entertainment of Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, you might want to skip it!

The Happytime Murders is directed by Brian Henson, and is set to hit theaters on August 17, 2018.

I was looking forward to this before I saw the trailer :/

Looks like its making a lot of people laugh though. Highlight of the trailer was seeing Stanley show up.

@DeadWade213 - as a crime drama. Not a comedy.

So, it's like a remake of the short-lived TV show The Fuzz?

reading the premise a few years back reminded me of a sort of modern “meet the feebles”. hopefully it retains that satirical wit “feebles” had, because if so, we might be in for something special. but i’m not gonna lie... this trailer has me a bit disappointed. i was afraid it’d lean more into screwball territory rather than dark satire once melissa mccarthy signed on (which is ideal for a concept like this), and it seems like that’s what we’re getting. unless reviews are glowing, this one looks like a skip.

Yup, that's how I feel too. Hope the movie is better than the trailer. It just didn't land for me imo.

@regularmovieguy - it’s a real shame, too. this movie has been in production hell for a good few years now, and i’ve been actively anticipating it the entire time. but holy shit, this trailer was really bad.

Wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I prefer when Melissa McCarthy plays against type. Worked well in Spy.

Her last few movies have just not cut it for me. Hoping for the best with this but the trailer doesn’t excite me.

Maybe the green band trailer will be better.

Looks funny, always good to have a comedy to look forward to.
Not a always a fan of McCarthy but I did love Spy and hopefully this is up my (Sesame) Street.....................!!!

Her and Statham were a great double act, would love to see The Stath do more comedy roles.

@Stinkor1 -

I love The Stath, just a good action star.

Lock Stock and Snatch are awesome and he was fantastic in them.

This film was generating a lot of buzz at CinemaCon. I'm usually one to skip all the Melissa McCarthy films, but I'll watch this one for sure.

This has redefined "genre bending" films to an extreme. A rated R Puppet crime drama! No one can say it is not original.

@Forthas - The plot is original yeah... but only the plot

The premise is really fun, just like Sausage Party, but like Sausage Party this could be a one joke movie where everything is based on "Haha, look at the funny thing saying a crude word"- premiss
